Female Lead in the Sanjay Dutt Biopic Opposite Ranbir?

This story puzzles me.  I understand that every movie needs a male and female lead.  But if this biopic covers Sanjay’s whole life, how can there possibly be only ONE female lead?  That’s not shade at Sanjay, it’s just a fact, he’s had at least 3 significant romances in his life, since that’s how many times he’s been married.

Ranbir has long been confirmed as the lead (which is a whole over level of weirdness, Raj Kapoor’s grandson playing Nargis’ son), and he is now actively in the middle of pre-production, trying to get his body to look like Sanju’s.  Rajkumar Hirani, the director, is also in the middle of pre-production, he was present at Sanjay Kapoor’s prison release in order to film it as the epilogue (or prologue?  It’s unclear) for the film.

(Man, they were so hot together!)

But so far, no one else has been announced as cast.  According to rumors, Katrina Kaif was initially considered for the “female lead”, but after her break-up with Ranbir in real life, that was nixed.  Now there is talk about Deepika Padokune possibly, since she is a reliable pairing with Ranbir.  And also Kareena and Amitabh are rumored to be involved.

But, how?  This is so confusing for me!  First, unless you cast someone super new, like Kat or Dips, they would have actually been involved in the real life occurrences of Sanjay’s life that will be, presumably, shown in the film.  So, would Amitabh and Kareena be playing themselves then?  Or would Kareena be playing her own sister or mother? (I would kind of love that)  Oh!  And I completely forgot Kareena is Ranbir’s cousin!  So I guess she can’t be playing a romantic interest role, right?  Maybe one of Sanjay’s sisters?  That would be so weird!

And then just the idea of a “female lead” is odd.  Unless it is Sanjay’s mother or sisters, I don’t think there is a woman who has been part of his life for a long period.  Which is part of his tragedy, that his first wife died so young and his second marriage failed.  His current wife seems nice, but she’s only been around for like 5-10 years.  Unless the film is only covering the past 5-10 years, I don’t really see her playing the “heroine.”

(Seems nice, right?)

And then this is setting aside the problem that Sanjay’s life is just way way too unbelievable to be made into a film!  Mother dies when his first film releases, first wife dies of a brain tumor and his daughter is taken away from him, he is arrested for terrorism and fights the conviction for a decade, finally marries a third time and has (adorable) twins just as he is sent to jail for 5 years.  That’s like some Muqaddar Ka Sikander level tragedy!  Totally unbelievable!  They are going to have to cut like half the significant events of his life just to get it under a 3 hour running time.

  1. If they’re going to make another Azhar like film glorifying him,I’m going to be annoyed.I wonder who they’re going to cast as Madhuri? Or are they glossing over that part of his life?It might just be why she contacted him after all these years.

    • I assume they are going to skip Madhuri. Because, in the grand scheme of things, she wasn’t really THAT important. Besides just being Madhuri. He didn’t marry her and they were only together for a couple years. Heck, they might skip over his entire second marriage!

On the other hand, if they do include her, I say they should just cast Madhuri to play herself. With the way she is aging, I could totally believe her as herself 20 years ago.

  2. It was definitely short but she was his most famous lover. As for her slow aging, one of the perks of marrying a doctor. Her husband must know all the right people(read cosmetic surgeons) in Hollywood.

    • I refuse to believe it! Madhuri’s skin just doesn’t wrinkle, and Aamir made his body look like that for Dangal through diet and exercise, and Hrithik eats a balanced diet and has no eating disorders.
