I just found the most amazing new artist on youtube, which inspired me to think I should put up a quick post of all my favorite east-west mash-up videos.

The new artist I just found is Vidya Vox, who has already been covered by the Times of India and all sorts of sites like that, and is on spotify and the other music streaming services that the cool kids use (I am not cool, and I only know about Saavn and Raaga).  But she is new to me, and she is AMAZING!  Look, she took my favorite new Indian hit, and one of my favorite guilty pleasure American songs, and put them together!

Never heard of this Western song (really, most American music after 1965 is a complete mystery to me), but I love the way it fits with “Hosanna’, which is of course from one of my favorite soundtracks.

I highly encourage just browsing on her channel, everything I’ve seen from her has been excellent.

Speaking of artists where everything is good, Penn Masala!  The all male acappella group of of the University of Pennsylvania.  I’m going to be that irritating person for a second, and claim that “I knew them before everyone else knew them”.  They cameoed in Pitch Perfect 2, they sung for Obama, and they had this awesome viral video 2 years ago.

But I’ve been following them since 2004!  Way back when they just had their first few albums!  And, truly, in 11 years, everything they have done has been Golden.  I have a hard time narrowing it down to just a few top favorites, but here are a couple;

The absolute best is when they make their little music videos!  They are great musicians, but they still have that ineffable look of “good boy ABCD college students”

If you are now totally addicted to them (and why wouldn’t you be?), you can also listen to them on spotify, or just buy all their albums.  I have, and I’ve never regretted it!
