Isn’t that headline nice and alliterative? It’s really the best part of this post. Well, close to the best, there is some actual information too.
First, BIG BIG news! Yash Raj has announced a sequel to Ek Tha Tiger, releasing Christmas 2017!!!

I’m excited! And also interested that they switched directors, from Kabir Khan to Ali Abbas Zafar. Both directors have a good track record with the stars, Kabir doing the first film and Bajrangi Bhaijaan and Zafar doing Sultan with Salman and Mere Brother ki Dulhan with Katrina.
But Ali Abbas Zafar has a longer history with Yash Raj, mentored by Aditya and only making films with them. Kabir Khan started out as a Yash Raj guy, his first 3 movies were under them, but he has now moved on to work as an independent operator. So, Yash Raj has moved on as well, giving the prime assignment to someone he is still fully loyal and in house.
But, here’s the problem, Christmas is already booked! That’s when the Ranbir Kapoor-Rajkumar Hirani Sanjay Dutt biopic is scheduled. And, possibly Shahrukh’s Aanand L. Rai movie. Or else that is coming out in 2018, I’ve heard it both ways. But definitely at Christmas.
So that means this Christmas is Aamir’s Dangal, next Christmas is Tiger Zinda Hai, and the Christmas after that is Shahrukh’s dwarf movie. But, what about Aamir? He always takes Christmas! Does this mean he won’t have a big movie coming out for the next two years? Or that he is going to take one of the other two big dates (Eid or Diwale) from the other Khans? That’s what was supposed to happen with Shahrukh and Raees, and then Salman announced he was taking Eid at the last minute after all, and sent poor Raees off to wander homeless through the calendar.
Personally, I find it very irritating when there are huge Christmas releases, just because I am busy actually celebrating the holiday and that makes it harder to get to the movie theater. So for me, this means the next 3 years will involve coming up with a lot of creative excuses to get out of family dinners and go to the movies instead.
I rather liked Ek Tha Tiger, so I’m excited for the sequel. But quit piling up on Christmas! There’s enough Oscar movies out then for me to worry about.

Exactly! And I didn’t even mention that Dear Zindagi is coming out at Thanksgiving! Plus, Eid fell right at the 4th of July this year. And Diwale is landing at Halloween! It’s just a scheduling nightmare for the poor American fans 🙂

Yeah, Aamir’s Thugs of Hindostan is coming out on Diwali in 2018. The only major holiday spot that hasn’t been booked yet in the next 2 years is Eid of 2018. Salman will probably a have movie release then though since he never seems to miss Eid. I kind of feel bad for people like Hrithik and Akshay when all the major release dates are getting pre-booked by the Khans.

Totally missed that Thugs was booked for Diwale! That must be why Shahrukh had to take Christmas in 2018 instead of Diwali.
