Video Ad Problem Update

I know you’ve been suffering with video ads, and I’ve been working on it!  Here’s the last thing I heard from WordPress:

We’ve had several reports of video ads that are hijacking the browser window, and we’re working to track down the advertisers that are submitting them, so that we can block them.

Could you let us know the following information, to help us track down the advertiser?

  • Your browser and operating system.
  • Your IP address (you can go to whatismyip.com to find this)
  • The exact URL of the page/post where the ad was shown.
  • What product/service was being advertised.
  • The URL of the page that the ad takes you to.

If you’re getting reports from site visitors, they can also contact us with that information by filling out the form here:

http://en.support.wordpress.com/about-these-ads/

That will help us track down the bad-acting advertiser, so that we can block the ads.

    Ironically, a video ad jumped in while I was trying to read this post.

    They sure want an awful lot of information. If I was paranoid, I would hesitate to provide all that personal stuff.

    • Well, since this is kind of my job in real life, I can tell you it is all standard information needed to solve these kinds of problems. I’m not really surprised by anything they are asking. It has to do with which server you are pinging off of and stuff like that.

        • That’s why they need the address your computer is coming from. It’s most likely related to where your computer is signing on from and what cluster of ads you are getting, it sounds like your area is no longer getting the cluster with the troublesome ad.

    • Yes, but I am losing .0000000000000000000001% of a cent because you are using an ad blocker! Don’t encourage that in others!
