Another youtube video! I am on a roll. You can ignore it if you want, but I am trying to get back in the youtube groove, see if it will do me any good for blog views (so far, better than podcasts, but still not great).

When you quote numbers (15 million; 9 million, etc.) — Are those dollars? Net? Gross? Per screen? First week? And, how much does it cost to make a “normal” Indian movie?

This is why I don’t like youtube videos! It’s all very hard to grasp without reading it.
Million dollars. Gross, not net (net is impossible to find for any film industry, studios are very fudgey on those numbers). Yash Raj is the clearest Indian studio as to cost, generally they stay with a 80 crore production budget and 20 crore promotion. Not included in that is the cost to the distributors of any additional promotion, getting the movie to the theaters, etc. etc. etc. For Tiger Zinda Hai, they broke the bank, going up to 150 crore I believe for the production budget. We can only guess how that translated to box office, we don’t know exactly what their cut was of everything, but certainly they spent much much much more money on Tiger than on any other film they have made, and they made less money from it.
