Happy Ganesh Chaturthi!

Happy Ganesh Chaturthi!!!  So many wonderful songs!  Many of them ones I have posted before, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t good.

1. This one is obviously the best.  It’s so good, that Karan made it the alternative Dharma productions logo music.

2. This one is a close second.  Partly because I love Shahrukh, but mostly because it is just a really good song.

3. As you may remember, I don’t much like Bajirao.  But even I have to acknowledge this song sequence is really well done.

4.  This song is great, but I am still vaguely distracted by the plot set up of “oh no, at the last minute we can’t do our planned choreography!  Not to worry, we will just ‘feel’ the song and it will all come together” set up.  Like, where did the masks come from?  Did they just ‘feel’ them into existence?

5. A new one! From a movie I never did get around to seeing.

6. Another Ganpati song from ABCD!!!  But this one doesn’t make my head hurt, because a closely choreographed song in the streets to celebrate the holiday seems totally reasonable and believable.

7. And then, Amitabh!  From the old, original, Agneepath.

8. And once again, Amitabh!  His new song from Sarkar 3.

9.  Another newer one, from Judwaa 2 last year.

10.  And finally a t-series original, with a video that inexplicably features Ajay Devgan going around the city in the midst of the real celebrations.

    • There could very well be older songs I just don’t know about, but I looked and looked and couldn’t find any. So if they exist, they aren’t very famous/popular. Kind of strange, I would have thought one of those 1950s village boy arriving in Bombay movies, or the 1970s gritty working class hero movies, would have had one.

  1. I must say Bollywood has the best songs on Ganesha. Don’t have the same opinion about the song in Judwaa2 sounds more like Apple polishing Salman Khan…Just saying.

  2. Juxtaposing the happy celebration of Ganesha’s ‘birthday’ to violence, murder and menace may be okay for the film’s narration but as a festivity song, I would not choose it as a first. In addition I found Karan’s (M. and J.) rendering exaggerated.
As I had the chance to be in Mumbai during the festival I can better relate to the Don-song than to the one before and after also concerning the ‘real deed’ – the going into the sea. (my 2nd would be Amithab’s from his Agneepath despite the lingering threat).
In any way: Happy Ganesh Chaturthi 🙂

  3. I couldn’t find the video but this is a really beautiful fusion version of Mahaganapathim from the malayalam film millennium stars(released in 2000)…

Actually your post on Tseries today reminded me of this film. It was about the war between music cassette companies and the link between underworld and music industries in mumbai. All the songs in the film are amazing and still feel fresh.
