Shahrukh’s Birthday Party and 2.0 Trailer

I probably could have written about both these things earlier today, but I didn’t.  Oh well, better late than never!

First, Shahrukh’s Party that Was and the one that Wasn’t

Such an odd thing!  Multiple sources were reporting a plan for an early Diwali/late birthday party at Mannat, big splash and lots of people and so on and so forth.  And it’s the kind of thing that you couldn’t really hide, if it was really going to be that big, there would be all the workers and decorations coming in, plus all the many many people who received invites.  So I just assumed it was actually happening, seemed reasonable that the reports would be telling the truth and there would be no reason for them to lie (especially since it would be so obvious when the lies came out).

And then, nothing!  I suppose it could still happen tomorrow, but everything was very clear it would be today, Saturday November 3rd, at Mannat, big big party.

Instead, it was a medium sized party at a restaurant.  Which seems reasonable, Shahrukh has opted for smaller gatherings for the past several years and since he had to stay in town for work, why not do a restaurant thing?  In a vacuum, this is a logical way to celebrate his birthday.  Stay up late the night before, greet the fans at midnight and have cake and hang out with your kids, then do your work thing during the day, and then have a dinner party that night.  It’s just really really strange to me that there were so many reports of it being a bigger party!  It could have been camouflage I guess, but why bother?  Or maybe it was planned at one point and then no one RSVP’d so they canceled it (I’ve been there)?  Or maybe it is simply on a different date?  But it’s still odd that all the other details might be correct and the date wrong.

Oh, and then the police stopped the party at 3am.  Which I guess is why it’s better to have these things at your house, even if it means you have to pick up and do dishes after.  The music and noise was going loud, and the restaurant wasn’t isolated and set away from other buildings (like Shahrukh’s house would have been) so the neighbors called the police and they shut it down around 3am.  Which either means the Bombay police were pillars of unbribable honesty, or the idea of being photographed shutting down an SRK party was just too good to resist.

The guest list is what I find interesting.  Nikhal Advani, Aanand L Rai, Swara Bhaskar, names like that.  Not fellow celebs, but fellow interesting movers and shakers in the industry.  So, it was a work/social event.  The goal was to improve his professional life, but to do it by socializing and getting to know new interesting people.  Unlike last year when you had Alia, Katrina, Farah, and also the parents of his daughter’s friends and Ayan Mukherjee because he came with Ranbir and like that.  People he felt close to whether he met them through work or not.  Probably another reason for the restaurant party, looks like Gauri may not have been there and definitely none of the kids.  Which would have been noticeable if they hosted at home, but putting it outside of the house makes it just a work thing for his friends and his family doesn’t have to be there.

2.0 Trailer, So Much CGI and So Little Story

I’m sure the goal was to reveal the amazing special effects and make us all ooo and ah.  But it doesn’t work for me, because there is still no actual STORY!!!!!!  Akshay is evil and uses cell phones, Chitti is reborn and fights him.  Amy Jackson is????  The goal of Akshay is?????  The goal of Chitti is?????  I’m just at a loss!

  1. There was a big party very late at night at Mannat.

    Guests:

Actresses – Kajol, Juhi, Kareena Kapoor, Manisha Koirala, Vidya Balan, Madhuri, Alia, Katrina, Jaqueline, Shraddha, Shilpa Shetty, Sonakshi Sinha, Jaya Bachchan, Tapsee Pannu, Kriti Sanon, Sara Ali Khan, Ananya Pandey, Kiara Advani

Actors – Aamir Khan, Aditya Roy Kapoor, Vicky Kaushal, Jackie Shroff, Shahid Kapoor, Arjun Kapoor

Filmmakers – Aanand Rai, Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Imtiaz Ali, R. Balki, Vishal Bhardwaj, Ramesh Taurani, Siddharth Roy Kapur

Salman’s family and Sanjay Dutt’s wife were also there. So were Shweta Bachchan, Suzanne Roshan and other socialites. There may have also been people that the paps missed in their pictures.

Of course Gauri’s family was there too.

Anyway, it’s interesting how skewed the guest list was towards actresses at least in terms of the industry.

(Anushka, Sonam and Aishwarya are out of town or else I’m sure they would have been there too)

    • I should have known you were have the scoop! The time lapse is super irritating, I’ve been checking all day for party reports and couldn’t find anything.

Not surprised at the skew towards actresses, if I think of it in terms of Shahrukh’s career, he tends to pick scripts with strong female roles so his closest co-workers would be female rather than male.

      • The party started very very late post-midnight so I think the Indian media must have been sleeping. The paps post their photos on instagram as soon as they get them.

It could also just be that everyone was invited but the women were the ones who all showed up which makes sense too. They’ve either worked with him and know him well or they want to work with him so they would not decline the invite.

It doesn’t hold the same importance for the men.

        • Makes sense, same reasoning, Shahrukh gives great roles to actresses over actors, so they won’t care as much.

Thanks for explaining the lag! I’m still seeing “new” stories about the police raid on the other party, as though that is just happening, and very few stories about this one, mostly just round ups of instagram’s of people getting ready, not even arrival shots.

    • Update:
Salman, Varun, Siddharth, Preity Zinta, and some others were there too. The paparazzi somehow weren’t able to get pics of them but people from inside put up their own pictures.

  2. I’m surprised that Nikhil Advani was there at the the earlier restaurant party. But Swara Bhasker was there because she’s Himanshu Sharma’s girlfriend. The restaurant party was just SRK’s family (Gauri’s mom and other relatives were spotted) and the crew members of Zero.

    • I hope Shahrukh and Swara hung out besides just as the girlfriend, because I really want them to do a movie together! They would be so amazing!

  3. Anonymous, Varun Dawan was there, too, and Vivek Vaswani. Many weren’t spotted outside by the media and one only got to know through the photos made inside and posted on instagram privatly.
The only source I got to know is the thread on india-forums:

I’m no member, I’m only reading, not writing but maybe I saw you somewhere (and also in other threads I read…and if you are the same person, I really like your way to express your thoughts there, too).

    • Margret, I’m sure the party started earlier than 1:30 am the 4th.
I think, it was a combined birthday/Diwali party as his birthday was mainly dedicated to his work (trailer launch + party with the crew) and his fans. ShahRukh greeted his fans in front of Mannat a thrid time late in the evening showing them with a gesture to now go and get some sleep 🙂

Ah yes, Karisma was there, too…and Deepika may be very much involved in preparations for the wedding…

  4. I wonder what was Shilpa Shetty thinking when she bought this outfit:

Her husband wasn’t dressed better either. But Maddy was at this party too, and I’m so happy.

And for 2.0 trailer – I haven’t laught so much for a while. CGI is good, but this story looks ridiculous. It looks like a movie people, who like to make fun of indian movies, would love.
