New Shahrukh Song! Zero Love Song Out For Our Post-Thanksgiving Pleasure!

Yaaaaaay, first song!!!! It’s swoony, it’s romantic, it’s colorful, it’s delightful. Thank goodness Ajay-Atul came up with something better than what they did for Thugs.

SONG!!!

Remember my post on the different kinds of romantic fantasies that heroes can represent? I said Shahrukh was the ultimate Alpha, confident and strong so you don’t have to worry about taking care of him. That’s what this song is all about, he is cocky and confident and sweeping Anushka away with the romance of it all.

Which is also what Aanand and Shahrukh have promising all along, their concept for this movie was to take the Shahrukh thing and put it in a different package, see if he still works when he has an imperfect body. And this song is definitely all the Shahrukh thing, romantic and dominating and worshipful all at the same time.

In terms of little plot clues, we see the first meeting that we already saw in the trailer. And then it looks like the rest of the song takes place with Anushka in pajamas and Shahrukh in the tuxedo, but rumpled. So maybe early the next morning? He spent the night putting together the surprise? And either Anushka falls in love with him over the course of the song, or she is already in love with him because of something else that happened between the tidy tuxedo time and the rumpled time. Because certainly her reactions to him during the song look like she is in love. And I really do like the idea of these two imperfect people having this swoony over the top romantic moment.

What do you think?

I don’t really see an imperfect body in this. I see a miniature version of a normal adult human like in a cartoon. Either the building is oversized or the person is tiny. Kinda like reverse of Gulliver in Lilliput. I think they should have done more work to distort his body structure than just shrinking him, like oversized head or stunted limbs to get a better sense of imperfection.

    • An oversized head would be my preference. That way he can still use his whole body to act without distortion, but there would be something that makes him look different even in shots when he is by himself.

      • Absolute perfection! Tears of joy…
Maybe this scene is in a clinic, Zero brought Dilwale inside to Anushka who can’t go out and wears the most unsexy pajamas. Behind Shah Rukh I see nurses in white uniform.
        Could it be so?

        • I would love if it is the climax, if he finds her again, in a tuxedo again, and does this whole huge song to win her back.

    • It was already the best part of the full length trailer, now my biggest fear is that it will be the only really really good part of the movie, that the rest of it won’t live up to it.

  2. You know what I like the most in this video? Anushka. She is perfect. Sharukh also, but I have seen a little part of this song in the trailer, so I’m not surprised that there is all SRK magic in it. But now I could focus on Anushka and I loved her expressions, her acting and her look.

  3. I believe there is no need to distort Zero body beyond the height impairment. To see how his image was carefully crafted observe a little detail on his teeth; they made his right canine tooth displaced as the real SRK left one which aggregated to his smile an irresistible childish quality!

  4. I am in love with this song. Also I love that they used Abhay Jodhpurkar in this song – he does a LOT of south Indian songs with Rehman. He fits in with Ajay – Atul’s style which when done right is like old school Ilayaraja ….a simple, very melody with symphony in the back – making it both intimate and epic at the same time.

Shahrukh suits his voice really well! Abhay’s voice is a bit like Abhijeet’s and Udit Narayan – has that very tender quality. Arijit’s, in my opinion, did not suit SRK. I was shocked, because I do like Arijit, but to me it just didn’t match.

    • Agree about Arijit and Shahrukh. Except in JHMS, but that was a very specific kind of character. This is much better. Plus, I love it that they are looking outside and bringing in new playback voices, along with new composers. Poor Arijit and Pritam were getting worn out.

  5. I’m glad they released the full audio too. This is such a beautiful, over the top song, and the singer is new for me. They are leaning a lot on the visuals from this song for the trailer and teasers. I’m hoping it’s because they don’t intend to give away too many of the other cool moments from the movie, and not because there aren’t that many other cool moments, as you say, Margaret.

    • If this is like Radha, the big emotional peak moment of the movie, that would be fine so long as the rest of the movie can live up to it. I am remembering before JHMS I was so dubious based on the trailers, thinking there wouldn’t be any real song sequences. And then it turned out to be the most songfilled movie in years. So I am trying not to worry or think too much about the trailers for this one. And failing, obviously.

  6. We are that final pre-launch month, when my stomach starts to fill with butterflies and I’m juggling anticipation with constant worry. There is so much that can potentially go wrong that I can never just enjoy it. Wish it was different. I age 5 years every time one of his movies come out.

    • I barely remember back before Ra.One came out when it was just a guaranteed hit every time SRK had a movie. Now there is so much tension!

  7. Three minutes trailer and two minutes song captured the attention and emotion of millions.
Everybody involved with the odd romance of a height impaired bachelor a cerebral palsy young woman and a stunning movie star! Any doubt SRK is one in a billion? Any doubt he will be romancing and dancing for years to come teaching people dreams don’t fade?

  8. One comment on the trailer: Anushka Sharma, a smart woman and skilled actress is probably now the ideal costar of SRK; but to be fair to Katrina Kaif she seems to offer willingly her beauty as a backdrop to SRK and Anushka luminous acting. A precious trio!

    Like

    • Excellent point. Based on what we know now, it appears that Katrina’s role will be “the woman who isn’t quite enough”. Beautiful, but not true love. Which is something not all actresses would be willing to do. Although if it’s a good role for her and a good director and so on, than the gamble might benefit her in the end. This was kind of the role Dips had in Cocktail and it gave her a chance to really show what she could do.

  9. I loved the song! And SRK looks like Abram in some of the shots. But there was too much of color, the RedChillies VFX people running amok with colors I guess. Hopefully its not like Dilwale.

    Like

    • Oh yeah, I forgot about the RedChillies color studio. They seem like the most successful branch, but Shahrukh has got to stop letting them learn on the in house movies.
