I Was Social Tonight! Again! (tomorrow’s post may be late)

After my little “I am so isolated and miserable!” freak out last weekend, I am trying extra hard to be social this week. And thus, fewer posts. And tomorrow’s morning Friday classic post may go up more at 10am than 6am like usual.

Monday night I had quilting, that was fun, I had to take the bus and walk 2/3rds of a mile to get there (because stupid car), but it was worth it to get out of the house and see people. And hear all the church gossip, that’s always fun. Little Michael moved from the baby room to the little kids’ class! Okay, it’s not great gossip, but I like it.

Gup chup! (Hindi slang for gossip, talking, stuff)

Tuesday I had the Insane Day at work, survived it, got pizza on the way home, finished the Yeh Jawani post and wrote a couple of others for the next day.

I was my own version of a “Badtameez Dil”, meaning I had pizza for dinner instead of salad

Wednesday (yesterday), I got up an hour earlier than usual, scraped off the car, drove over to the garage and finally got it fixed. Then went to work, work work work, took myself out for lunch, came home, lugged in the enormous box of groceries I had delivered and discovered the sardines had leaked everywhere, cleaned that up, wrote more posts, went to bed.

I like to imagine these folks catching my sardines

Today, got up, packed up the enormous amount of dirty clothes I had to wash, lugged that huge bag down to the car, drove to work, worked, and then at the end of the day I was talking about how I have to go to the laundromat on the way home and my friend insisted that I have to go home with her so she can show me how awesome her sink attached washing machine is.

I suppose other young people do wild things like this at night, we go and watch laundry being done

So, went home first to get coins and my laptop, then drove over to her place, struggled into a parking place, carried in my huge bag and my laptop and my purse, unloaded everything, and then loaded up again to make the journey to her laundry room. Because the sink attached machine is awesome, but not big enough for the Truly Enormous amount of clothes I had.

Picture if these elephants were bags full of dirty clothes. That’s about how much laundry I had to do. With the bad weather, my back steps have been iced up and I couldn’t get to the laundry room

Now, my friend has been complaining since she moved about how horrible her laundry room is. I didn’t believe her, but OH MY GOSH! She has to go down the outside stairs, then along the side of the building for half a block, then out into the door to the alley, then along the back of the building (dodging cars) to the other side of the building, unlock the door, go down another flight of stairs, and do laundry. I did all of that and, after finally reaching the laundry room, realized I forgot my quarters. Back into the alley, through the puddles and past the dumpsters, into the locked gate, sneak along the side of the building, up the stairs, get the quarters, down again, along the side of the building, and so on and so forth. Meanwhile, she just hooked the hose up to the kitchen faucet and put the other hose in the sink to drain, put in her laundry and hit “start”. It is very tempting to get one of these machines, I have to say.

But the money! It would pay for itself in about a year with me not having to pay for laundry. But do I risk it?

Anyway, we did laundry in our own individual ways and hung out and watched songs and stuff and I got to be with other Human People out in the World, which is all kinds of healthy. Oh, and she made me dinner, which was also healthy, with vegetables and stuff. And then I loaded up all my clothes (dry bag, wet bag, bag of stuff that didn’t fit in the machines) and loaded the car and came home.

It was heavy like dragging a grand piano behind the car

And then parked, lugged all the bags upstairs to my place, and realized I left the phone in the car. Back down the stairs, down the block, grab the phone, back to the building, up the stairs, get back inside, and put all the clothes on the drying rack. And then sit down to right this post. I’m TIRED. And I have to be at work in 9 hours. Oh well. It’s almost the weekend.

Weekend! I can party like this! Or, like someone who goes to bed really really early

  1. This makes me so mad! Sorry to bring negativity, but no one else I know would get it. Gov’t blocked an honorary doctorate for Shah Rukh last year.

    • I think I am more angry about the story of how they rejected him for a public service campaign, that he was willing to do for free, and replaced him last minute. It’s all part of building a false reality, isn’t it? If he is no longer doing public service announcements, and no longer getting spontaneous honors from outside the film industry, it’s easier and easier to see him as a greedy selfish celebrity with no real talent. And then the public starts to go along with it, you have people writing pieces about how he is old or tired or untalented because it’s easy to think that when there isn’t anything else happening around him. And this truth becomes the truth because it is repeated so much. The same with “Kangana is talented and brave” backed up by all her many many awards, or “Karan Johar is evil and controls the industry” backed up by Kangana saying it over and over again, or anything else you want to encourage to be true through a controlled reality.

  2. It’s like the line of the poem ShahRukh posted on twitter: “They want me to be dead.”

I think he’ll wait for any announcement about plans till after Badla has released…

Although it wasn’t a pleasure for you with all the walking and carrying, you made it a pleasure for us to read 🙂

    Enjoy your weekend!!!
