Shahrukh Summer Discussion Post: Battle of the Cameos! Which is Your Favorite?

You ready to prove your TruFan status? This is a “best of” post not for the weak or faint of heart. I’m not talking the full fledged small roles (Saathiya, Shakti, Hey Ram, etc.), I’m talking about the 5 minutes or less one scenes. Most people haven’t seen one of them, let alone all of them. Heck, I haven’t seen all his cameos! Just the ones listed below.

Har Dil Jo Pyar Karage. One of the all time best interval cliffhangers, Shahrukh appears halfway through the movie and announces that comatose Rani is his wife. Only for it to be reversed in the next scene when Little Anjali appears and explains Shahrukh has gone insane and gently takes him away.

Gaja Gamini. This feels like longer than 5 minutes, but it really isn’t. Madhuri wanders through the dreamscape of MF Hussain’s imagining and bumps into Shahrukh, a photographer, who flirts and dances with her and then disappears.

Luck By Chance. Shahrukh playing himself, giving the kind of advice to young actors that he has probably given in real life.

Love Breakups Zindagi. Once again playing himself! But this time serving as the catalyst in a cute young love story, not as a wise elder in a story of fame gone bad.

Ae Dil Hai Mushkil. A few minutes of poetic flirtation with Aishwarya, and wise advice to Ranbir, plus a voice over of poetry recitation earlier in the film. It’s not much, but what’s there is very nice.

Tubelight. The role he was born to play! Mysterious powerful earring and kohl wearing magician.

Which is your favorite? Which is the cleverest use of him? Which do you most want a full film based on his character?

  1. Okay, I haven’t seen all of these, but I love the cameo in Ae Dil… It’s the first time he hit my “sexy” radar. He’s incredibly sexy here!

    • Yes! And maturely sexy, none of that trying too hard flailing that Ranbir is doing, he just shows up and talks.

  2. Does Heyy Babyy count? I guess that’s more of an item number type thing, but it seems to be functioning as a cameo because they are making a big deal out of it being Shahrukh with all the DDLJ jokes.

    • I really like the cameos where Shahrukh plays himself. But I’m never sure if that is because they are good cameos, or just because I love Shahrukh.
