Blech. My usual level of cheerfulness is somewhere around 12 out of 10 (especially early in the morning, I am that horrible person who leaps out of bed singing in happiness while everyone else wants to kill me), but today it has dropped to more like 8 out of 10. I just want to go home and crawl into bed.
It’s both overcast and humid here, so I am depressed with lack of sun and also low energy with horrible blechy heavy weather. Also, I’m hormonal. Also, it’s Monday. Also, I wasn’t hungry so I let myself skip breakfast which might have been foolishness.
Anyway, none of this wallowing! I’m gonna beat this thing! First, it’s World Elephant Day! Which gives me an excuse to watch this guaranteed cheer up song (Chal Chal Chal Mere Saathi):
Second, Shahrukh wants me to be happy! Look at this new ad campaign where he puts on funny hair and mustaches and stuff and pretends to be dopey Dads!
And third, an animal shelter I went to when I was looking for a dog just sent me this photo. It’s gotta turn into a good day, right? With puppies in my email inbox?

Oh my god, that commercial is the BEST THING EVER. He indeed loves us and wants us to be happy. I am having a crappy day too…buyer on my condo may fall through and I’m trying to remember that the universe is conspiring in my favor but COME ON!!!!!!! Thanks for this.

If you are really really down, there is always my guaranteed go to make me smile Shahrukh image:
And yes, it will all work out for the best in the end. Two weeks from now, you won’t even remember this little blip.
Semi-related, don’t forget to send me your new address when you have it! I’m gonna keep mailing your monthly cards to the old address until you tell me different.

I’ve consciously avoided finding an explanation for the image, because I find it so much more joyful out of context. It’s just Shahrukh in a turban pointing out a gigantic tooth.

Monday’s almost over! Do you watch Stranger Things? I can’t remember. We watched Season 3 over the weekend and it is really good.

Yes! I finished season 3 last weekend. It’s been binging weather. Such a good show, and a distinctly American show. Like, I can’t even imagine remaking it for India, the setting is so much of what it is.

Funny you mentioned the setting. I came across my senior yearbook yesterday (1989, I am old) and looked at it with my daughter. I expected her to comment on the hair and clothes, but what she noticed is how much my midwestern high school looked like the school in the show.

I got stupid excited about Family Video at the end of the last episode. It was started in Springfield where I grew up, and is still in existence in small towns in the greater Illinois/Indiana area. Same signs and everything. When they walked into that set, I could smell and hear exactly what it was like. And I really hope it helps FV stay in business, the son of the founders is running it now and is trying to keep it alive.
