It’s Guy Fawkes day! The day we celebrate Guy Fawkes’ failure to blow up Parliement by…blowing stuff up? Honestly, I feel like if “Guy Fawkes” didn’t have such an amazing name, we wouldn’t still be talking about him. Anyhoo, let’s look at some big revolutionary Guy Fawkes-like songs. (yes, this is partly an excuse to put up my favorite Malayalam rap song again)

And Ratnam-Rahman’s tribute to the great patriotic songs of Tamil film, which I kind of like better than the actual patriotic songs of Tamil film.
Well, except this one. Very catchy, and inspires me to give my life to protect the Tamil language.

And “Apna Time Aayega”. Those are all the straight up revolutionary ones, right? All of them are revolutionary in that all of them are the underclasses speaking truth to power, but these are the hard truths.
Okay, I put in all those other songs just to prove I have an open mind. Now I can put in the one I really love.

It’s so good! Especially now that I have gone back and watched all the other Bhagat Singh movies. A moment that has been done over and over again in Hindi cinema, and yet they found a way to make it feel totally fresh and new.

Legend of Bhagat Singh (Rahman) is my alltime favorite, esp. Sarfaroshiki Tamanna. I think there’s a difference between revolutionary and patriotic songs.

True! Come to think of it, Gully Boy came two months in, and War came two months from the end. Maybe it’s just the end bits of the year that are bad, like a loaf of bread.

Padmavat! Blech!!!! It made a lot of money, I just hated it. And then Uri, which I avoided entirely. And right when I was super depressed, Gully Boy came out and cheered me up.
