Aditya Chopra Week: Rank The Most Romantic Moments of His 4 Movies!!!!!

This is really just a battle for the top between Rab Ne and DDLJ, but I am throwing in Befikre and Mohabbatein too just so they don’t feel left out.

  1. 1. DDLJ – it’s iconic, it’s necessary, it melts your heart, the chemistry is off the charts
    2. Befikre – Funny, in sync, cute and childish
    3. Rab Ne – It’s really always read as a moment of self-actualization for me for both characters than a romantic moment. More of decision making than actual romance.
    4. Mohabbatein – it’s cringy and weird and what even

    • Wow, putting Befikre above Rab Ne! A brave stand! But I will accept your reasoning, it is the culmination of the character journey as much as the culmination of the relationship

    • I agree about RNBDJ. When I saw it on the list I thought: Wait, it wasn’t romantic.
For me, the most romantic moment of Rab.. was at the Golden Temple when Anushka realized Suri loves her truly, and she decides to stay with him.

        • I admit it’s not romantic in the traditional sense but for me personally it was super romantic, even better then DDLJ scene (which is my numer 2)

          • I think what’s really cool about the scene Angie’s mentioning (as well as the scene in DDLJ and in Befikre), is that it rests on that amazing communication between two parties, which the Dance in Rab Ne doesn’t really show. Both parties in DDLJ, Befikre, and Rab Ne have these moments of unspoken communication and understanding, where they affirm their love and their decisions to be with each other. The Dance in Rab Ne is more of a realization, which is only in Anushka’s head, making it less about the romance and more about the character.

  2. 1) DDLJ (I recently re-watched Tujhe Dekha after years and it was just hit with emotions because of how vulnerable and raw Kajol and Shahrukh were. This was such a surprise to me because I didn’t really care much about DDLJ growing up)
    2) Rab Ne (I end up sniffling whenever I watch this)
    3) Befikre (My favorite part of the movie)
    4) Mohabbatein (Watched this one for the first time just now and ????)

    • So interesting that Tujhe Dekha is hitting you differently! I saw it the first time at age 19 and it always takes me right back to that age in my life. But maybe I should watch it again? Maybe this time I will feel different?

The Befikre dance is so good! Every song of the film wound together, with original choreography to match, and the actors keep acting in character the different emotions the whole time.

  3. 1. DDLJ – easy to recreate in real life and VERY romantic
    2. Rab Ne – hits you in the feels every time
    3. Befikre – the intensity when they look at each other makes it,
    4. Mohabbataein – haven’t seen it, but since others have already put it so low I take their word on it

    • Ha! Had not thought of “easy to create in real life” as a factor! But I guess it is, for me, in that this is something that is not really special or fantastical, but it is very romantic because we feel so much for those characters in that moment. Unlike, say, the Befikre dance which is this elaborate thing with fancy clothes and so on.

  4. I don’t know, that scene you just posted a description of in DDL seems more romantic than any of the ones listed above. My issue with Rab ne is that khakis weren’t meant to be danced in and he looks terrible. I’ve seen Mohabbataein but don’t remember the scene you are referring to, so it can’t be that good. I haven’t seen Bekfire, but I’ve seen the song, and it is great. Is it greater than SRK showing Kajol a mirror and telling her she is the moon? I don’t know. Smaller moments hit me harder than the big numbers.

    • If smaller moments hit you harder, how about Rab Ne when he takes his things out of the bedroom and lies that he always sleeps in the attic?

  5. 1. DDLJ – classic, iconic, so sweeping, makes your heart swell
    2. Befikre – it’s got a ton of sexual tension, and I’m all about dance numbers with sexual tension
    3. RNBDJ – complete contrast lol. Excellent in terms of a cinematic climax, but in terms of romance, the scene after this tops it.
    4. Mohabbatein – Aish and SRK have GREAT chemistry, but every movie I’ve see that they’ve done together is SO TERRIBLE.
