Ludo is the one I care about most, but so long as I was writing about that one, I figured I might as well write about the others.
Taish
This is the movie that is also a series somehow? And only available on Zee5, which is of course not yet in America. But more importantly, it has a great role for Jim Sarbh! He gets to play charismatic mysterious powerful person, which is of course PERFECT for him.
The trailer is completely confusing to me, largely because No Subtitles, but also I think on purpose, they just wanted to set a tone and a mood. Wedding weekend, old friends, acquaintances, secrets, romances, affairs, and then Real Life is everything that happens because of what happened that weekend.
Ludo
Yaaaaaaay! Ludo!!! This looks like 4 similar stories in that they are all wacky spinning out of control tales. Abhishek kidnaps a bossy little girl, ARK has to make money to keep girlfriend Sanya Malhotra, Rajkummar has to help his crush Fatima Sana Sheikh rescue her husband, and school boy Rohit Suresh Saraf finds money that (I think) gangster Pankaj Tripathi is looking for. And Pankaj at least appears in a couple of the stories which makes me think they will intersect eventually somehow. Maybe the money Rohit finds is the payoff for Abhishek’s kidnapping and so on and so forth?
Anyway, I am excited because it has a fun light black comedy tone, and the performances all look good, and I like all the people involved.
Chhalaang
I am fascinated by the making of this movie. Hansal Mehta, but produced by Luv Ranjan. What a fascinating combination of sensibilities! And resulting in Hansal’s muse Rajkummar co-starring with Luv’s muse Nushrat.
The actual film, not sure if it will work or not. Despite a cast that also included Zeeshan Ayyub (yaaaaay!). Seems like one of those “loser guy tries to win the girl” stories that may end up giving “loser guy” more sympathy than I can agree with. But I do like the dry comedy of it, and the idea of physical education teacher school politics is original.
I see it’s going to be A Very Rajkummar Autumn, and also that he’s bald enough to have to wear wigs now (or maybe he got/is now getting plugs, I don’t know his fake hair life). I’ve been expecting this moment, and now that it’s here, I am thankful. I am absolutely watching Ludo for his mullet. I think it actually looks quite good on him?? Maybe that’s just because I love deeply cheesy, sleazy characters.
Taish as a story does not interest me even the slightest bit but I am absolutely getting Zee5 in order to ogle Jim once I have some time off later in the year. I wonder what his role will be like, because my theory is that this part will signal his official move into character actor (instead of possible vedette, which he was for a while).

I am very excited about Rajkummar in Ludo playing the dim innocent again. He is so good at that! The whole “smart leading man” bit he has tried a couple times just feels wrong on him. And same in the other movie with all the “h”s, at least for the first half. A bit nervous about him trying to do strong and inspirational possibly in the second half.
You must get Zee5! As one of the blessed few who actually have it available, you owe it to the rest of us.

I couldn’t finish the trailer for Chhhanang because his wig was too distracting. He really should steer clear of typical hero parts, although strong and inspirational sounds hilarious. I won’t get Prime just to see it though.

I found myself more excited about seeing Zeeshan as the antagonist than Rajkummar as the protagonist. The Noble Hero is just booooooooooooring.

And don’t you think Zeeshan in this role looks like Jimmy Shergill?

I think he looks like Jimmy Shergill, because it is a Jimmy Shergill part! As Jimmy has come to be. Other guy who doesn’t get the girl.

From those 3 movies I’m interested the most in Taish. I was waiting for Ludo but it looks very different form what I thought it will be. I would skip it if not for ARK and Sanya Malhotra.

Yeah, ARK is not only ARK, but also seems to be playing a nice sweet Angie kind of hero. Also, a very tall actor opposite a very short actress is always wonderful.

I have a bad day today and I need beautiful ARK playing sweet hero asap. I think I will watch some parts of Fitoor

Oh Angie, I’m sorry! Here, have a photo of Harsh Kapoor in his Sneaker Closet to cheer you up:
And here’s Arjun Kapoor being smiley on sets

Harsh posted a thing of his stylists sorting all his clothes out for him. It blew my mind.
Not saying he doesn’t look good, but good lord. I could have styled that outfit when I was 15. 15!!!!

Think of it this way, if this is how Harsh looks with a stylist, imagine the depths he could sink to without one!

I am ridiculously excited about Ludo. That cast is amazing! Just Rajkummar and Pankaj Tripathi alone would be amazing but a reunion of Sanya and Fatima, Abhishek doing something edgy and different and ARK to look at means I have very high hopes for this one!

Because I am one of Those People, I am already trying to figure out how the stories will intersect. I really really want Abhishek’s little girl to turn out to be Sanya or Fatima when she grows up. Or Fatima’s baby daddy to be Abhishek. Or something like that. I like it when there is a cool “and all of this was happening at different times and is a continuing story” kind of twist to these.

Ludo is the one I’m looking forward to. Crazy, black comedy done right could be great – though I’m being cautiously optimistic after Ginny Weds Sunny. This was meant to be a theatrical release right? I didn’t understand anything in Taish trailer and looks too violent for me. Chhalaang feels like Bareilly ki Barfi with Raj in AK’s role. I too was more excited to see Zeeshan than others.

Yeah, Ludo was meant to be theatrical, I think maybe May? Anyway, the poster was released a long time ago and then they sat on it until they decided to just give up and sell the streaming rights.

I was interested in Nushan vs. Rajkummar in Chhalaang until Zeeshan came in and they started doing macho pissing contest chest bumping thing. Meh. So Nushan is just a trophy after all? Kainaat nailed it, Bareilly ki Barfi with gym teachers.
Ludo looks great, though. First one I’ve been excited about in a while.

I really hope Ludo doesn’t disappoint us all!
And I also still have hope that Nushan will turn out to have more to do in the second half than we think she does.
