Monday Morning Questions Post: What Do You Want to Ask Me the Week Ludo Releases?

Happy Monday! And also, WOOT! Ludo!!! So excited to finally watch that thing. I am sure I will end up being a little disappointed, but at least I can stop being curious about it.

Here is where you get to ask me anything, from “which star are you most excited to see in Ludo?” to “Hey, who is Nehru who’s birthday is coming up soon?” Just keep swinging back to this post all week as you think of new questions!

Now, question for you! Nehru’s birthday is also Children’s Day (because he liked kids), who is your favorite OR least favorite child character in Indian film?

Favorite child character, hands down, little girl in Bajrangi Bhaijaan!

Bajrangi Bhaijaan' to released in China this week | Indo-Canadian Voice

  1. I like Master Ratan, the 70s child actor, because he had a really atypical face for a child actor. Also, quality actor.

It’s Harsh’s birthday! He’s looking great. I’m so glad Ludo is coming out because it’s the kind of low investment hopefully entertaining movie I want to watch now. I don’t have brain space for Taish.

  2. As I like a loooot of kid’s charaters/actors, I will just name the least favourite one (and it is – entirely – Karan’s fault): the little boy from KKHH (he used him in 2 movies, if I’m right…cuteness wasted – except for two scenes)

  3. I like to watch Indian child actors. I don’t always remember their names but I do remember the bad ones. No. 1 annoying snippet at the moment, Kirti Kulhari’s daughter in Four More Shots, Please. She kept grinning at the camera.

You know what also intrigues me? How very few child actors look exactly like the stars they’re supposed to grow up to be. Most have no resemblance to their adult counterparts at all. You’d think casting directors would at least make some attempt to match the faces.

    • Yes! I find the child actors not matching the adults, and also the siblings not looking the same, fascinating! Because most of the time these are very famous people and the audience actually is familiar with how they looked as children, and how much siblings look like each other.

If you look at K3G, little Kareena is a surprisingly good match. But Kajol and Kareena look nothing alike when you compare them with Kareena and Karisma. And little Hrithik was a cute chubby dude, when in reality he was stick skinny and had to work hard to put on muscle when he started acting.

  4. Master Raju, who among a lot of other things played Sharmila’s young son in Daag, is probably my favorite, because he seems so bewildered by everything. At several points (if we’re being honest, for pretty much the entire second half of the movie), Sharmila has to grab his little head and kiss him and cry hysterically and he just stares at the camera with an expression like “This is fine.” He is still a working actor, I found out when I wikipediaed him, now known as Raju Shrestha.

  5. I like the boy who accompanies Anil Kapoor in Mr.India.
In Telugu, the kids in Little Soldiers, so cute.
Master Tarun in Maniratnam’s Anjali – mischievous with other kids, but mature when it comes to his sisters. Excellent acting. He did many good roles as a child actor.
Anjali used to be telecasted on every Children’s Day

  6. If possible I would love some context for the puff sleeve dresses Juhi wears throughout Hum Hai Rahi Pyar Ke. I personally kept thinking of Anne of Green Gables and her puffed sleeves, fashion from the late 1800s. But this was the 1990s. I know Laura Ashley exists, but Juhi’s character was wearing these dresses everyday. Other than making her look like a little girl, did the dresses mean something? Oh, and the theme of child actors, the smallest boy in the film was extra fantastic.

    • Juhi’s character was southern, so she couldn’t wear Salwar Kameez (the usual not yet grown female wear), so the dresses might have been a substitute for that. There’s also a “half sari” that I’ve seen referenced a lot in southern films, it’s essentially a big skirt and full length blouse, the dresses Juhi wears are very similar to that only in modern dress form. But mostly I think it was just a super cute look that the filmmakers got a kick out of and put her in as much as possible.

The oldest boy was Kunal Khemu who grew up to be HOT and marry Soha ali Khan (Saif’s sister). Don’t know about the youngest boy.
