Saturday Small Talk: Chat Away While I Re-Organize My Apartment!

Happy Saturday! I am deep into a clear out project, posted over 100 books on ebay and am putting all my DVDs in binders. So that’s a fun Saturday!!!

Things to talk about!

Laxmi Bomb! Has anyone seen it? Is anyone interested in my seeing and reviewing it? Because I’m not super interested in watching it.

Akshay Kumar on Laxmmi Bomb will be out on Disney+ Hotstar: Wearing a Saree is Extremely Difficult

True Crime! I’m on a true crime documentary binge. Off the top of my head, I can think of three fascinating complicated true crime cases in Bombay (Nanavati case, Divya Bharti, and Indira Mukherjee). Are there any other cases out there that are interesting to read about/talk about? Would anyone like me to give a summary of the three cases I know?

Nehru! It’s his birthday today! What is your favorite Indian patriotic film?

Ooo, I am torn! There’s Swades, there’s Rang De Basanti, there’s Chak De India, there’s Gold, there’s 1942: A Love Story. I can’t decide! You pick!

  1. Happy Diwali Margaret!!

Sorry I went mia again for so long, but I did miss talking to you. It’s been a while but I hope you’re doing well!

Does Neerja count as a patriotic film? Because that would be my choice; either Neerja or maybe Airlift…

    • Yes Neerja! I forgot about that film, it is so great.

And Happy Diwali! I hope you aren’t going too insane stuck home from college 🙂

      • Neerja is that one movie that I absolutely love but I don’t think I’d ever want to watch it again because it destroyed me the first time.

Lol yeah, it’s been a struggle but on the bright side the semester’s almost done in a few weeks.

  2. If Neerja counts, Neerja. Patriotism is a concept that means nothing to me and makes a movie boring at best, unwatchable at worst (hello, Manoj Kumar).

Ness did a review of Laxmi Bomb or whatever it’s called which seems charitable:

I’m watching Ludo but am not really into it.

That one guy did a new Govinda fanvid focusing on his footwork and it made me realise how brilliant his footwork is:

    • I wrote a post on “Shahrukh and Patriotism” a few years back which helped me clarify when/where I like it. If the message of the film is “My country isn’t the best but it is my home and I have a responsibility to clean up the place where I am”, then I feel like it is universal. So, Neerja, which was about caring for the people around her. Swades too. Chak De, with trying to help the players unite as a team and force India to be better to women and minorities. And so on.

  3. Yes, please do review Laxxmii…I love it when you review Akshay Kumar movies…

Also, I am soooo excited for this trashy show…its going to be so much fun!! P.S. Shahrukh and Gauri make an appearance in the trailer as well.

    • But it hurts me so much to write Akshay reviews! Have you now sympathy for my PAIN???

Also, that show looks amazing, and that is totally Gauri’s girl squad. HA! to the point that I am thinking they must have had to film around her, find the times when she wasn’t hanging out with them. Also, Suzanne, missing from the gang.

      • Okay maybe you can turn the Laxxmi review into a discussion of trans people in Indian cinema…so it won’t be all pointless??

I am surprised that SRK/Gauri agreed to make the appearance in the show…maybe it has something to do with the Red Chillies – Netflix deal? Maybe Netflix gave them some sort of quid-pro-quo for this?? That’s probably why Suzzane is missing…too classy to do this show and Netlfix had nothing to offer her…

  4. Oh, Ludo! Are you going to review it? I’m so confused. How many times can Pankal Tripathi die? What’s wrong with Fatima Shaikh? Can’t she leave the cheating husband? And why is Rajkumar Rao even in the film? The only thing I understood was that Aditya Roy Kapur is and always will be, hot.
