Yes, we are doing the annual awards again! As always, they will be different award than every other site does, and also different from previous years on DCIB. I just like to shake things up!
I wasn’t even going to do this post, because Harsh was such a clear winner it wasn’t worth it. But then Vijay Sethupathi snuck in just under the wire with his New Years post that was still in 2020 in the Western time zones! So now we’ve got a real horse race!
First clear winner, Harsh’s “Sneaker Culture” ode (can you read the whole thing without getting the giggles?)
But then, last minute entry, Vijay Sethupathi’s New Years with Cat and Tight Pants (small complaint, everyone involved in this photoshoot gets a credit except for the cat? Who is the Cat????)
And finally, Hrithik’s minimalist simple “Morning” (tingles! I’ve got tingles, every time)
And finally, Karan talking to Yash and Roohi while they turn their toy shelves into bunk beds (I love Karan’s acknowledgement that in this moment of parenting, he has lost all control. Every parent has been there)
Karan’s posts with his kids were the best part of the lockdown for me. I used to look forward to them every morning. It always started my day with a smile.

Yaaaaaay! It’s been so long since he updated them, so glad that I am not the only one who remembers.

Happy New Year! I’m planning to join the watchalong, at about the point when Mohini comes into the story. I can’t decide between Sethu and Karan. But Sethu posted 5 awesome things on Dec 31/Jan 1, including a sweet trailer for a movie he’s made with his daughter:
Maybe he should get an ancillary award for combining quality with quantity 😊.

Happy New Year! And yaaaay! See you in about 2 hours!!!
What I love about Karan is the combo of adorable children, and totally relatable household chaos. Makes me enjoy children, while also being grateful I don’t have to deal with them.

I also love that he talks to his kids like they’re people, and the “Toodles!” at the end is adorable.

Oh no, Harsh’s always makes me laugh but that Vijay post is a VERY strong contender. Very tempted to make that my desktop background.

EXACTLY!!! Like I said, I thought of it as Harsh’s year, until Vijay came up with a last minute entry.
Any choice between the two?

On the power of just the post, sorry, it’s Vijay. It’s masterfully conceived and perfectly executed. Harsh has a more consistedly high quality body of work, though.

My goodness, I’m SHOCKED!!!! Maybe it’s because I’m ultimately more of a narrative person? For me, Harsh’s post has more of a story to it. It’s not just a weird photo of a cute dude, it’s a weird photo of a cute dude with lots and lots of words. While Vijay’s post, ultimately, is just an image. Again, the late of the name (or backstory) of the cat is a point against for me.

Yes, I get that. Harsh’s post takes you on a real journey to a hilarious place. But I think ultimately instagram is about immediate visual impact. If this was about blog posts, then yes, Harsh would win.

The other strong contender is Vidyut Jammwal – he is hot and has photos with puppies

Can you give me one perfect representative post? I decided to split up individual posts from overall body of work.

These are okay, but no puppy! You inspired me to crank up instagram and try to find one. Check out this. The puppy is so tiny! SO TINY!!!

I have to go with Vijay. The entire composition – the cat matches the pants which match the golden glow down Vijay’s face. Sublime! Also, if that cat is anything like mine, Vijay is being ripped to shred but powering through it.

I think you nailed it!!! Especially the cat holding issues. There’s a sort of taught alertness to his posture which screams “please don’t scratch me again”

Have to go with Vijay. It’s the image itself – why a cat? is it a metaphorical tiger? did he rescue it? is he just taking it for a stroll? – plus the veeeery long production credits at the end, for one photo in an insta post, are just an added top note of absurdity.

It’s possible at some point this will turn out to be related to movie he is promoting or something, but I really REALLY hope not. I want it to just be a random nonsensical unrelated post.

I’m loyal to Harsh. It’s so him, unabashed “buckshot tee” and all. Karan’s vid looks overproduced. KJo is trying to direct the kids when he doesn’t have to; they’re naturally adorable. I love Vijay, one of the best faces and best talents in the buisiness. But he’s way too photoshopped; he hasn’t been that in shape since…well never. Hrithik’s eyes are amazing but what’s the rest of him doing? Looking for zits in the bathroom mirror? And Sid eating (potato chips?) meh.
So yeah, put my check in the Harsh column.

Despite my well-documented Hrithik love I have to vote for Vijay because that is the most delightfully deranged photo I’ve seen…maybe ever?
However, I am very partial to this Hrithik Instagram Live video where he can’t figure out the technology. He’s such a very dim bulb but also sweet and sincere and that works very well for him on Instagram.

Harsh just followed me on Twitter after I tweeted about AK vs. AK. Crazy! He’s going to be mighty disappointed when he sees all of my Kdrama tweets.

I love the Vijay photo! Especially in context, why is this his New Year greetings for 2021? He is wishing us a year of fat grumpy cats?
