90s Week Friday WatchAlong!!! Dil To Pagal Hai or Hum Aapke Hain Koun? Fight For Your Fav!!!!

I already decided we are doing Friday afternoon instead of Saturday morning, because the big concern with Friday afternoon is folks having to come late. And these movies are so loooooooooong, doesn’t matter! Also, we’ve done Saturday a lot lately and it feels unfair to Friday, you know? Poor day of the week getting jealous.

Dil To Pagal Hai

Spandax, Madhuri, Shahrukh, magic love, many songs, and a Valentine’s song number!

Hum Aapke Hain Koun

Most important romance of the 90s, inarguably. Also cheesiest and most 90s-est.

  1. HAHK is leading so though I love the classic, I thought I’d talk about Dil To Pagal Hai as well.
It was an alternating concept with a dance troupe at that time since it was fresh and newer though it was a bit cliché. It is an SRK film I like to watch in free time because it’s quite interesting to see how Hindi cinema has evolved and how it shaped what we watch nowadays. I think that Nisha’s character was the most realistic as she was a regular girl who couldn’t control her emotions and would do things at her own pace. She was always overshadowed because of her chill and modern approach and that she didn’t “act like a girl”. The cinematography was good and the songs fit with the group of dancers plot. The performances were applaudable and the direction by Yash Chopra was visible throughout the film, with the concept of love and the overall film being something that he would do.
HAHK is a classic Bollywood film that made a lasting impression on Hindi cinema. It explores family relationships and was different to how family was portrayed back then. It is primarily about children willing to sacrifice their love for the family’s sake and the acceptance of romance. The wedding traditions in the film made it even more popular as people were able to connect with it. This film contributed to a change in the genre of films being produced as it moved away from violent, action movies to a romantic genre. The film had amazing music along with a simplistic plot which is slightly cliched, and a great star cast.Overall, it is a great family film
