Sunday WatchAlong: Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, 8:30am Chicago Time!!!

Wooo, our first Sunday watchalong! And a great sunny vacationy kind of movie! The perfect ending to my vacation, I am going to order fancy coffee/breakfast for delivery and relax and enjoy. And then go over to my parents and officially rejoin the “real world”.

Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara! Hrithik and Kat are hot like fire together, and also a really well-written love story. And then Farhan and Abhay are also there. And Kriti is too good for any of them.

At 8:30am Chicago time I will put up an “And PLAY” comment and we will just go from there!

  1. Allllllllllllllll my sympathy is with Kalki. Yes, she shouldn’t have come. But she kind of knows she shouldn’t have come, and is in a no win situation.

    • Yes! Kalki being insecure and jealous is bad, but it’s an understandable issue for her, let your friend and his fiance work out their own thing, you know? Don’t call her a “witch”.

      • It’s not understandable to me. I can’t stand Kalki’s fake niceness and actual jealousy. But yes, let her and her fiance work it out. And don’t call her a witch! That’s awful!

        • It’s understandable to me after we get the flashback we haven’t gotten yet and see how this whole engagement is built on quicksand. She secretly knows he doesn’t want it, and kind of doesn’t want it either, and is just waiting for something to implode.

  2. I think Farhan dislikes Kalki for a pretty good reason. She is uptight and his friend is rushing into marriage. But she isn’t a witch.

  3. HRITHIK! First one of the boys to get to reveal his full motivation, and maybe that is why I like him more than the others? No, I think I just like him more than the others.

  4. Oh, now Farhan gets to give his motivation too! Do we get the Abhay reveal right after this too? The engagement flashback? Is the construction that tight?

  5. I can ALMOST forgive Farhan now, if we go with a “he is so torn up by fear and worry over meeting his bio Dad that he is always moving and talking to distract himself”. But still, apologize to Hrithik.

  6. Does Kat feel like a “Manic Pixie Dream Girl” to anyone? She doesn’t to me, and I can’t quite put my finger on why she feels less wish fulfillment and more real.

  7. This is such an immediately iconic moment. The woman chasing down her man, all by herself, on a motorcycle, to put her heart out there.

  8. If she was a “manic pixie dream girl” character, just there for Hrithik’s journey, this is the last we would see of her. And we wouldn’t have seen her ask her friend for the bike or chasing him down, we would have just seen her magically appear and kiss Hrithik and then disappear again.

  9. Awwww, we also get to see Kalki integrate more into the group during this song. We don’t know what she is saying, but she is talking to Farhan and making him laugh and Abhay is holding her and stuff.

  10. And now Kalki is a full character too. Abhay is giving stuff up to be married, but Kalki is giving up waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more. All for this impulsive decision they are now both regretting.

        • Yes, just barely, most are in Nevada but we do have some (close to the Nevada border). There was a huge herd that travelled through the county north of me two years ago. The Phantom Stallion books by Terri Farley are great kids books with wild horses in them, that are mostly true to life. The books take place in the high deserts of Nevada, but the situation is similar to some high desert places in CA.

          • Oh what a relief! Zane Grey and the Black Stallion series and all these others primed me for gorgeous herds of wild horses. Glad to know it’s a reality.

          • There is a beauty to wild horses, but um, they’re kinda shaggy and beat up looking. The glossy coats belong to the animals in the stables.

          • Oh man!!!! So all those book descriptions of the magical wild horses running through the plains and such beauty and stuff, is really just shaggy lice infested diseased wild animals?

  11. Kalki’s character is supposed to be at her worst at this moment in life, right? Like, we are getting clues that she was a super cool ambitious professional woman, but as the marriage gets closer she is forcing herself to put all her focus on Abhay because she thinks that is what a “wife” is supposed to do?

  12. Has anyone watched 27 Dresses? Abhay and Kalki’s relationship in this movie reminds me a little but of Malin Åkerman and Ed Burns’ relationship in that movie. They will eventually get married but they need to get to know themselves first and be real with each other.

    • we are going to have a WHOLE discussion at the end about if Kalki and Abhay will get together again. I am torn between wanting them to get together in like 2 years after dating other people and stuff, and Kalki marrying someone awesome and making Abhay spend the rest of his life thinking “what if”.
