What a grand GRAND day!!!!!! There is really only one way to celebrate, I think. To the tune of “My Country Tis of Thee”.
God save our Gracious Queen!

Long Live our Noble Queen

God Save the Queen!

Send her victorious

Happy and Glorious

Long to Reign over us

God save the Queen!

Thy choicest gifts in store

On her be pleased to pour

Long may she reign

May she defend our laws

And ever give us cause

To sing with heart and voice

God save the Queen!!!!
Happy budday Rani!!!

You know what, I’ve never wished Rani a happy birthday before. I guess even with my favorite star, the one who first made me a fan, it’s not really about the person behind that for me. The woman doesn’t need to be aware of my existence, the actress still functioned as a closet key for me. I love her characters and the things they have in common. I don’t think anything I learned about Rani the person could take that away from me.
Part of it may have been that one of the first Hindi movies I saw was Chori Chori Chupke Chupke. All that subtext between her and Preity really started a penny dropping.
For me, Rani is all about the eyes. I think they work really well when she’s conveying a secret hurt that her character doesn’t actually want everyone to see. So those “perfect” characters you mentioned in yesterday’s post, I really think Rani shines in those roles, even though she does “bubbly” well, too. I remember how happy I was when I had picked out Bunty aur Babli at my local Indian grocery and it turned out to be as perfectly fun as it is.

Rani is one actress I really like to separate the performance from the person. Not that the person is horrible or anything, but she is so vibrant and amazing onscreen and that is the Rani I love, the real life Rani is never going to be as sparkling and special as she is in performances.
