Saturday WatchAlong: Dil Dhadakne Do! Starting at 7:30am! For Genevieve’s BIRTHDAY!!!

Happy birthday Genevieve!!!!!! And thank you for picking such a great movie! I look forward to a lively debate between me, who is sympathetic to Anil Kapoor, and everyone else, who hates him.

Dil Dhadakne Do! It’s on Netflix in America, and probably other places in other places. Great movie, great songs, mixed cast, sexy Anil Kapoor.

At 7:30am Chicago time, I will put up an “and PLAY!” comment and we will go from there!

(also, Genevieve, refresh the site about 15 minutes after the movie is over, I’ve got another present for you)

    • The movie I never made it through because I got bored! Someday when I’m feeling pensive I’ll give it another chance.

  1. Anil Kapoor! Totally a sympathetic character. Has to deal with normal healthy insecurities without ever showing them in public.

      • Yes. That’s the one. Just feels whiny to me. Partly it’s how PC plays her, she gives her too much confidence in most scenes, I feel like she could just stand up for herself instead of passive aggressively whining.

      • Hobby business funded by her wedding jewelry, passive aggressively letting people know she hates her husband without confronting him directly, rich woman who secretly thinks she has it worst of all even when she doesn’t.

        • Trying to make the best out of her life that she was pressured into by her own parents and starting her business with what she had (her jewelry). Trying to make it work with an oppressive husband and MIL and finally getting the courage to ask for a divorce. Yes, her! Love her.

  2. There is a small airport in my town. I used to take the 9 year old (when he was 2) and his friend their all the time, we would walk around the tarmac and look at the different kind of planes. Sometimes we would talk to the pilots who were occasionally just flying in for lunch!

  3. Seeeeeee? Shefali Shah isn’t perfect either!!!! This is my real point with Anil. The simple version is “Anil the patriarch is to blame for everything in the family”. But in reality, Shefali has been enabling it all too, spoiling Ranveer so he stays home and doesn’t stand up to his father, exiling her daughter, not confronting her husband about his cheating, and so on.

      • Exactly! Shefali isn’t perfect either. She is a terrible mother to Priyanka and overly indulges Ranveer. And yet, Anil giving her an eating disorder and consistently cheating on her makes him so much worse!

  4. So parenting…. This auto son love so that the son can do no wrong is strange, and yet, the love shown is surely real.

  5. Now, I feel like the diet/weight thing cuts both ways in this marriage. Anil wants her to eat healthy like he does, and she eats even more unhealthily to get back at him. It would be different if Anil was eating terrible and wanted her to eat better, but this way it is a cold war, they each eat their own thing and won’t give in.

    • She isn’t really eating unhealthy, and her body weight is not extreme. He wants her to look 15 years younger. He doesn’t want her to be healthy.

      • Except he is eating a fruit plate. I feel like they are saying he is obsessed with being young himself and he wants a wife to also look young. Not that he wants to be able to age while she stays young.

  6. This is exactly like me having dinner with my parents now. Except they are fighting about stuff like “who forgot to put olives on the grocery list”. And then they stop fighting and we watch Poirot. And no one has opinions on other people’s food/weight. So not that similar.

  7. I love the fight with the sound cut off and the over narration. It proves a point without the pain of hearing people fight. And it looked cool.

  8. I love their house, but also it has this distinctive look of “classy rich Indian house” and I can’t even identify what makes it like that. But it’s different from “classy rich American house”. Maybe more wood? More natural colors? More windows?

  9. I was researching cruises recently for a book club, and can’t believe that this cruise only cost 8K Euros for a couple.

      • Did you catch taht they were a young love marriage? That’s so important to me, that they have known each other so long, and they chose each other and planned a life together at one point, even if it is mostly gone now.

  10. This is so Rich PEople. They can set aside their issues and talk openly and plan together for the future of The Money, in a way they can’t about anything else. Marriage is falling apart, children are falling apart, none of that is worth a conversation, but The Money must be protected.

  11. This cast is huge, but I love it. We get the poor relation, the upper management servant/friend, the equals in industry negotiating for power, and the kids who haven’t figured out their place in the structure yet.

  12. For my grandparent’s anniversary we did a big family trip to Disneyland and it was EXACTLY like this. Except that my grandparents actually loved each other.
