Understands her daughter fully without needing to talk about things, there to support her in whatever she chooses, straight up tells her to cancel the wedding if she isn’t in love.
Farida Jalal in Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham
Not only raises her own daughter, adopts the motherless daughters next door, and the lonely rich boys she nannies!
Kajol in Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham
A big embarrassing, a bit pushy, but over all relaxed and loving and letting her son and sister/daughter be free and find their own place.

Loving understanding all those great things. But could have pushed her son a little harder to get over his grief! And indulged her granddaughter a little less.

Now we are getting to the bottom 3! Jaya in KHNH is doing the best she can, sort of. But she needs to get that toxic Grandma out of her house! As soon as that old lady started abusing her little daughter, she should be OUT!!!

I agree with your entire ranking EXCEPT that Jaya in K3G isn’t that bad. Her ‘preference’ for one child is based on her overcompensating for his being adopted and wanting him to feel loved. And that she had waited so long to be a mother. I think Hrithik was a bonus baby, unplanned as she thought she could not get pregnant. If she was a truly lousy mother she would have favored him as her ‘own miracle baby.’
