Something NEW! DCIB Book Club Turns Film Club!!!!

Brace yourself! I’ve got an idea! And I’m gonna run with it! Even if you all end up hating it!

Book club was suuuuuuuuuuuuch fun! But I am running out of ideas of fun short easy to find reads that everyone at DCIB would enjoy equally. On the other hand, I keep thinking of fun short easy to find WATCHES that everyone at DCIB would enjoy equally. So I am switching gears!

These won’t be Indian movies, because we all have different tastes and things with those. But they will be non-Indian movies of the type I know everyone here would enjoy. Some of them have even been remade as Indian movies!

First pick, Streets of Fire! It’s on Netflix, it’s only 90 minutes, and it is what Tezaab/Varsham/Baaghi is based on. And it is the weirdest coolest strangest thing you have ever seen in your life. Willem Dafoe plays a queer leader of a motorcycle gang wearing leather overalls. And that’s the least strange thing about it.

Watch it on your own sometime over the next few days and we will get back together and discuss on Sunday! And if you don’t get to it by then, just come back to the Sunday post and comment later.

  1. I like this idea! For various reasons, my attention span currently is that of a toddler and I can’t get into reading, movies are easier! As you know I’m going through a Cary Grant phase, so may I selfishly request for some of his movies on the schedule? I think at least some others would find them enjoyable!

  2. As much as I love this idea, I will not be participating in this for a bit because I feel like I’m going to be busy the next couple of weeks finishing my grading and wrapping up the school year.

    BUT

    If you need ideas.

The past few days, I have, for some reason that I can’t really explain, been VERY into the idea of watching Brokeback Mountain. I haven’t, because as I said, I’m busy. And I know it’s sexually explicit and maybe long and maybe heavy. But societal and familial expectations? Love? Gays for pride? it’s an idea? Idk. This whole concept sounds fun though. I will try when my motivation is no longer at an all time low.

      • Yeah, I’m worried about the sad stuff, since I already have a vague idea of how it ends. I just wanna watch the first part with gay cowboys falling in love and then read fanfiction of them staying in love and happy and everything is fine and nothing is sad. And then maybe recast it or something.

  3. I’m on a much-extended deadline so can’t do book club or even watchalong for a while. But I do read and enjoy the comments when I take an infrequent break. Y’all write so well.
