Happy Thursday! Put this off a bit last minute, oops! And the only exciting birthday this week is Jim Sarbh, and the only good Jim Sarbh watchalong movie is Raabta which we already watched. So, my mind is a blank!
It’s been a while since we did an SRK film so, just throwing it out there, do we want to go back to him this week?
Main Hoon Na
Fall, school starting, all that stuff? Plus, who doesn’t love Main Hoon Na?

Kal Ho Na Ho
New York in fall looks really pretty in this movie, and he kind of “schools” Preity and Saif.

Chamatkar
Another school based movie! He’s a sweet schoolmaster, it’s set at a college, very thematic.

Or, of course, ANYTHING ELSE
What are you in the mood for this week?
And is Friday afternoon or Saturday morning better for you?
It’s too bad everyone here hates Padmaavat which is the only other suitable watchalong movie he’s done. I’d suggest Yeh Ballet but honestly he’s barely in it.

I had the same thought! I saw Padmaavat on his filmography and thought “if only it was less Islamophobic/racist and more cheesy, it would be PERFECT”

I get the objections to the racism, but it literally could not be more cheesy without being actual cheese and tbh it gives the cheese stiff competition. It’s so bad and so stupid, I love it so much.

Have you seen Veer? Now THAT’S a cheesy historical pick. Padmavaat is nothing in comparison.

Yeah but I can’t stand Salman, so it’s out. It’s too bad, because he does have the biggest camp factor. Anyway, does it even have canon gay?

You didn’t say Camp! You said “cheesy”! So no Canon Gay, but plenty of cheese

Well, yeah, I mean, it has that too, it’s a masterpiece of weird subtext, undermining itself, and paradox.

Okay, I have to ask. What’s the different between campy vs cheesy? Whether it is intentional or not?

I would say, Queerness. You can have a completely cheesy thing which has no queerness at all. Like, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai is cheesy. Or you can have something that is cheesy with “queerness” in the broadest sense, anything that “queers” social norms, like K3G. And that is Camp. So my definition would be, Little Anjali in K2H2 is cheesy, Poo in K3G is campy.

I like Yeh Ballet, that wouldn’t be a bad watch-a-long.

Yeah, it would be. Not enough Jim in it though.

*whispers* let’s watch Student of the Year again
I’m kidding. I’d been thinking about suggesting a Kal Ho Naa Ho watchalong for a while, but couldn’t think of a reason, and I’d look like a sadist because everyone would just cry.
