Happy Monday! I had a lovely lazy no-unpacking weekend, and now I feel guilty and Bad. But I am trying not to feel guilty because there’s no LAW that says I have to unpack in all my free time until I am fully moved in. Also, I moved a piano this morning before work, so that’s something.
Here is where you get to ask me anything you want from “What is your favorite Mahesh Bhatt film?” to “where can I watch that Mahesh Bhatt film?” Just keep swinging back here all week as you think of new questions!
Now, question for you! In honor of Mahesh’s birthday, let us set his children against each other! Alia or Pooja, who do you like better?
Alia Pros:
Very talented actress who challenges herself
Stable smart solid head on her shoulders
Very good sister to her sisters
Better Hair
Pooja pros:
Quit acting at her peak because she got bored with it
Publicly an alcoholic in recovery
Publicly super liberal
Never dated Ranbir Kapoor

Pooja. Somehow I can’t believe in most Alia Bhatt performances because she looks like a child. In 2 states Alia looked as if she was playing dress up.

She DOES always look like a child. But I like her anyway. I have little friends with full heads of gray hair who, because of their size or personality, kinda look like they’re playing dress-up every day.

Happy Monday! I have two pieces of exciting news!!! 1. Little Things’ final season is coming out on October 15!
2. Made In Heaven is in post production (shooting has been completed) and it is likely to come out later this year/early next year!

Aaaaaa! Little Things is so stressful! And I am SO worried it will end with a final break up!!!!
Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaay, Made in Heaven! that’s just juicy. So long as our best friends stay best friends, I/they can handle anything.

But I and selfish and hormonal and might need someone to watch Little Things to tell me what kind of a mood I need to be in to watch it. I am so invested in that show!!! And I am pretty sure you and I are the only ones who have been watching Little Things. If anyone else from DCIB plans to watch it as soon as it comes out, that would be amazing but then I need spoilers!!!
Made In Heaven is wonderful but for some reason, I am less invested in the outcomes of that show, so I will probably watch it as soon as it comes out.

I may need to just skip to the last episode of Little Things, and then go back to the beginning and watch slow. TOO STRESSFUL.

Great idea! I can do the same thing. If they break up at the end, I am going to be miserable! If I figure it out first, I will let you know. Gotta look out for each other š
I still haven’t watched Toofan because of your review and I am so thankful for it!!!

I will watch Little Things and tell you if it’s OK! I can handle many endings to that show as long as they don’t kill anyone off, which I don’t they would because that would be a BIG thing and a different kind of show.

Kavya is going to get pregnant and they will get married quietly and then have a nursery and then be happy FOREVER AND EVER AND EVER. At least, in my mind.

Also terribly excited about all of those things, although I may be too busy to watch Little Things when it comes out, and they will probably delay Made in Heaven on Japanese Prime until I get worried about whether it will come out at all, just to make me suffer.

Yay! I didn’t know it’s coming back for another season. Last time I checked a few months ago there was no news about it. Also is it just me or do they look like they’re dressed up for a wedding with Mithila in the white dress and Dhruv in the blazer. That gives me hope that they won’t end with a break up.
LikeLike
I really REALLY hope they end with a spontaneous wedding! I would love an ending like OK Jaanu/OK Kanmani, where they reach a point where they should logically break up and instead decide “to heck with it, we’re getting married and we will figure it out later”.

Yes! An OK Kanmani style wedding would be a really good choice for them. Also I just watched the announcement again and the first words that pop up is the “save the date” graphic which once again hints at a wedding…

Pooja had no chemistry with SRK, while Alia does, even if it is not romantic. So I vote Alia.
My thoughts got too deep over the weekend, so I found an old post of yours on light romances. I’m in the middle of Dil Maange More now.
What IS your favorite Mahesh Bhatt film?
LikeLike
Daddy! Which is almost impossible to find. It’s a super personal film, loosely based on how his relationship with Pooja evolved as she helped him get over his alcoholism. It’s a beautiful film, a young woman is raised by her grandparents and then as a teen meets a falling apart alcoholic man and learns it is her father. Mahesh is played by Anupam Kher, and Pooja plays Pooja.
Yaaaaaay, Dil Maange More! And everything else on that list I am sure is equally light happy.

Alright so there has been a gossip that Naga Chaitanya and Samantha are getting divorced. This gossip now almost presented as a fact is seen in many many websites. Yesterday at Love Story pre-release event Amir Khan spoke about NC and said something about how good he is etc. So now the latest thing is Amir Khan spoke all that because Akkineni family wants to make sure that NC is not one ar fault and Sam is to blame. All this to say why are we so bothered about celebrity couples and their breakups?

What is the deal with Tanishaa Mukerji, she is Kajol’s sister, but they don’t look alike, not every sibling looks alike, but also, while there is a 4 year age difference, Kajol started acting in 1992, but Tanishaa didn’t start till 10 years later, 2003, she was already 25! That isn’t normal in Hindi acting families is it? And does she not know Hindi? Because Kajol knows Hindi and they’re from the same family. Kajol knows Marathi too.
LikeLike
Here is Tanishaa’s and Kajol’s mother:
So actually it’s Kajol who is the outlier! Her Mom and Sister look really similar. At least, to me.
I’m really curious about Tanishaa starting late too. Kajol was the 3rd generation of actresses in the family to start as a teenager. So why did Tanishaa go so long before acting? And then act for such a short time? Maybe she was originally interested in doing something else and started acting as a fallback? Or maybe she has some kind of issue that makes it hard for her to work?
Kajol knows Marathi, Bengali, and Hindi I believe. Bengali from her Dad’s side, Marathi from her Mom’s, and Hindi from work. I would assume Tanishaa does too, but maybe she just knows Marathi and Bengali? From her parents? Maybe she was raised isolated in English speaking schools and English speaking social life?

I can add a little bit to what Margaret said since I think we have discussed Tanisha in the past. She definitely speaks Marathi and Hindi because there are interviews with her in those languages. I am not sure about Bengali since Tanuja seperated from Shomu Mukherji right after Tanisha was born (or maybe even when Tanuja was pregnant with Tanisha). Kajol has talked about her parents seperating when she was 4 and being raised by a single mother.
Tanisha had also mentioned multiple times that she was always compared to Kajol growing up since Kajol was a star at a young age. So, I can see Tanisha waiting to act until Kajol started transitioning out of acting, similar to Kareena/Karishma who also didn’t look alike and have talked about that. Kajol started doing special apperances from the end of 2006 to 2010 and Tanisha’s bigger roles (still not very big) came around 2005 on.
Besides that, Tanisha went to college in Australia, so that may be where her accent comes from. But it always seemed to me that she had various interests and comparison to Kajol was affecting her mental health. She mentioned in an interview that Tanuja was concerned about her being constantly compared to Kajol and specifically told her to do what she wanted to do. So, I think when acting didn’t pan out right away, she continued to pursue her other random interests and had the resources to do so.

So what is Tanishaa doing now? I may be evil, but I kinda think with a sister so famous she shouldn’t have tried acting at all, unless she really really loved it. But then she started so late, I doubt she really really loved it…

She was working with Ajay for a while in his production house. And generally she seems to be folded into Kajol’s family, lots of photos with the kids, and sometimes goes with Kajol or Ajay to events instead of a spouse. Kajol and Ajay are both SO successful, it’s probably handy to just have an extra person for anything.

I don’t think she is doing much. She was on the silly Big Boss show for a while as a contestant and a guest, and she was on India’s version of Fear Factor. She started a random production company but I am not sure if that went anywhere. She is also supposed to be coming out with a short film this year. This is mean, but it sounds like every other not-famous person in a famous, resourceful family.
And yes to your comment about not really trying acting unless she really really loved it. I can’t help but compare her to Kareena but also so many other siblings of famous actors. I think if you are related to a super famous sibling, you must really have the gumption and the passion to stick it out. And then luck plays a factor. Some really go far like Kareena but others like Sanjay Kapoor and Bobby have enough passion for acting that even if they maybe don’t get the roles they want, they have enough passion to stick it out and take on supporting roles or interesting character roles.

I’ll just add on that Tanishaa’s Mom went through this same thing! Her older sister was freakin’ NUTAN! It would be hard to find a more over-shadowing kind of talent, but Tanuja went out there and found her own place.

YES! That’s a GREAT point. She definitely went through the same thing and figured it out. And similar to the other siblings we have been discussing, Tanuja and Nutan looked NOTHING alike. I remember my mom talking about how Tanuja was compared to Sharmila way more than she was compared to Nutan because of her looks.

HA! I enjoy Hulchul too. Other Kareena movies without SRK that we have not watched: Refugee (she really is so good in it!), Yaadein (I love this movie even though it is bonkers!), Bodyguard, Singham Returns, Kambakkth Ishq (if you haven’t seen it, it is BAD but it can be fun to be annoyed at it).
Movies we have watched, but I would totally be up for them again would be Mujhse Dosti Karoge, Main Prem Ki Deewani Hoon, Jab We Met.

Also, what’s the SRK line up for October? Is it a multiple choice where we get to pick between a few options each week, or is it a set list? Are there must watch movies that have to be included?

I hate to admit it, but I almost forgot about SRK Month this year until the last minute. So I have no plan at all. Any SRK movie is on the table, so long as it is watchalong friendly (no Dil Se, no Hey Ram, no MNIK). And of course, readily available (tragically, no Guddu).

Watchalong friendly and readily available makes sense. Does readily available include Einthusan? I know we have watched some movies that are only available there but not sure if that is considered readily available. The two I really really want to do as a watchalong that we haven’t done so far are Yes Boss (which you obviously know) but also Karan Arjun! I think I already mentioned in an earlier comment that YB is on Einthusan with subtitles and KA is on Youtube and Einthusan with subtitles.

I prefer not einthusan, but it’s at least possible. Stupid Guddu is only available with 20 minutes missing, so that is a non-starter!

I am very cautious about allegations in India, because there is SUCH a benefit to false accusations against filmmakers. Kanika and SRK have a long history together, so the two of them working together doesn’t surprise me if true. The Hirani part of it, I am still on the fence about what is true or not.

Your question about Pooja and Alia made me realize why I don’t like Alia. I have seen some of her movies and I never thought: “oh man I want to see more films with this actress because she is interesting / acts very well etc”. For me she is in all those movies but she is never the most interesting person there. That’s why I’m also a little annoyed when I read she signs new movies all the time because I find her boring.

I often find her interesting, but not always. And when she fails, it’s a big fail. Maybe she’s a director’s-actress? If she has the right person working with her, she can create an amazing performance. But otherwise, she is just bland.
