Saturday WatchAlong: Happy New Year! For New Years Day! 8am Chicago Time!!!!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!! I hope everyone welcomed in 2022 in a lovely happy way, and of course my best wishes for all of my DCIB family in this new year. And now, let us begin it the RIGHT way, by watching Happy New Year the Movie.

Happy New Year

It’s on Netflix, it’s delightful, we’ve all seen it, what more is there to say?

At 8am Chicago time I will put up an “and PLAY” comment and we will all go from there!

  1. Last night the Chicago Mayor organized the Biggest Firework Display in History. The schools are a mess, my garbage never gets picked up, but we had FIREWORKS. It was like she was a spoof of herself.

  2. My Dad’s watching with me, and just complained that the US News doesn’t really cover the international dance competitions. We don’t even know about the World Danc eChampionships! (he’s being sarcastic)

  3. Do you think they built a mud fight field, or did they build a regular field and then it got wet? Is this a specific fight stule or an accident?

  4. Maybe this whole opening makes more sense if we think of it as a nightmare he is having? Because otherwise, why would the whole audience be screaming “chor”. What do they know/care about his family?

    • I feel like the long bits of the wig are a little less curly than Jackie’s own hair, but that’s also something that can change with age *shrug* The little Jackie who lives in my head is from 1985 or so.

  5. DAISY IRANI! I love her. And we know she is Farah’s aunt, right? And a former child actress turned character actress? She supported her whole family and was essentially the head of the family, so no wonder Farah loves her.

  6. Has anyone here seen the original Shalimar movie? Is this an homage in some way or is Farah just doing a fun reference to her favorite film?

    • There’s a whole thing in “Shalimar” about how the diamond is protected. There it’s surrounded by bombs instead of a kind of safe system like in this movie. And the diamond itself is Shalimar, not the security.

        • Yes, the whole conceit is that the diamond’s owner will give a prize to somebody who can steal it but you might also, you know, get killed by the bombs while trying. It’s a pretty fun movie, with Dharmendra looking very lickable.

  7. She still hasn’t start the pendulum on her clock! Maybe she is like my aunt? Can’t sleep with the load ticking but likes the way it looks?

    • My grandmother has about two dozen clocks and keeps all of them wound. Of course, she can only run so quickly from one to the other while doing it, so on the hour the chimes trail from the kitchen through the dining room and finally to the living room, the same path she takes to wind them.

  8. Okay, Rohan is Naseerji and Ratna’s son. We all know them well, right? Does he look ANYTHING like either of his parents? I just can’t see it. Maybe kind of Ratna’s face but as a boy?
