Friday WatchAlong: Hrithik’s Birthday or 2021 Awards Work? UPDATE: It’s Kirre’s Birthday Week! She Gets to Pick

Happy Tuesday! We need to figure out what we are watching this weekend. I’m telling you now, my preference is Pushpa on Saturday morning. But it’s only fun if everyone is having fun! So you tell me if you want something else.

First option:

Pushpa, early Saturday Morning

A long movie early in the day sounds nice. I can be all cozy with my coffee and my dog and then I can watch Pushpa which I kind of want to see otherwise.

Next option:

Anything Hrithik at any time

War? Jodha-Akbar? Mujshe Dosti Karoge? Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara? There are so many good options! And I would happily watch them any day of the week.

Third option:

Ray

I have to say, the enormous amount of hate this inspires is making me curious!

Who is free this week? When? And what do you want to see?

Also, Filmikudhi! Your baby is over a month old now, I feel like WatchAlong Maternity Leave is now OVER. Make him fend for himself and watch a movie with us. Or get him to start having opinions, like Genevieve and Emily and Angie’s kids, so he can join in.

  1. I’m genuinely warning you, there’s a fair chance Ray will destroy every ounce of good feeling you have for Harsh, so you really have to decide if that would be worth it for you. Seriously. I didn’t even know that was a thing that could happen because I mean, look at the things I’ve watched for various actors, but it happened with Ray!

    • This is so SCARY! And then I go back to Pushpa, because I have no super strong feelings about Allu Arjun.

      • It is scary! I don’t understand why it is. Look at the stuff I’ve watched! If anyone’s seen it all, it’s me. But NEVER has something been so bad I ended up hating an actor I previously liked a lot. And I still hate him. I just don’t want to even see his face.

        • Exactly! I also watch the weirdest stuff for my crushes. I have seen cheap stuff, bad stuff, and even misogynist movies but none of it made me suffer like Ray did. And when I talk about Ray I mostly think about Harsh episode and Kay Kay Menon one. The other two are rather innocuous but a little boring. Definitely not something you want to start your day with.

      • Yay! 🙂
I am choosing Aarzoo, a movie from the 90s with Akshay, Saif and Madhuri. Very wild, a mix of Silsila and Sangam, except 90s, a little cheap and WTF thrown in. I could call it an interesting movie if nothing else.

I have only watched it on einthusan, because I haven’t been able to find it anywhere else with subtitles. There is a fight scene at the end that is cut in that version. I think you can find the full version somewhere else with subs in the US, but this is the only version I have seen of it.

The usual Friday time works for me.

        • Funny thing in Aarzoo is how the haircuts change in some scenes and maybe I shouldn’t spoil it, but in some scenes Akshay’s voice is dubbed by some other guy, and OMG really they couldn’t choose a person less suitable for this job.

        • I think Aarzoo is better!! Most of the regulars watched Atrangi Re just a couple of weeks ago:) But even I haven’t seen Aarzoo! We just have to make sure everyone is watching on Einthusan.

  2. Yes, Filmikudhi, perhaps a certain actor will make your baby HUNGRY, or maybe he cries more when another enters the screen? Maybe he will have a favorite song, or a favorite color palate that actually makes him look at the screen? One month olds can have opinions!

  3. Warning: Pushpa is heavy going. Interesting story but way too long. Allu Arjun, arguably the best dancer in Indian cinema, hunches along awkwardly, manages to look stout, and the curly wig doesn’t do him any good. His acting however is amazing.

And I LIKED Ray. Harsh’s character was icky, which was the whole idea. I think he played it to perfection.

    • Yes, Harsh’s character was supposed to be icky, but in my opinion he wasn’t good in this role. He played it too seriously and it was painful to watch. Too heavy, too long. The story wasn’t good in the first place, but maybe a better actor could save it a little.
