Monday Morning Questions: What Do You Want to Ask Me the Day We Learn Alia and Ranbir are Pregnant?

Happy Monday! I cut Albie Dog’s quick when I was trimming his nails last night, and now Alia is going to have Ranbir’s baby. It’s all very upsetting.

Here is where you get to ask me anything you want from “what does it mean to cut a quick?” to “how do you know Alia is having Ranbir’s baby?” Just keep swinging back here all week as you think of new questions!

Now, the only question that matters today, how do we feel about this announcement?

I feel, primarily, that in 20 years none of our DCIB babies (no matter how much they beg) are allowed to date this Kapoor baby. NO KAPOOR DATING! That’s the RULE!

UPDATE: Pretty much all of us had the same thought, “did they get married because Alia was already pregnant?” And I am saying NO. It just doesn’t make sense in multiple ways. For one thing, the wedding was small but still nicely planned and all of that, I don’t think it could have been thrown together last minute. For another, these are modern young people with modern young families around them, I don’t think pregnancy would mean “rush rush, wedding wedding” if they didn’t already want it.

I’m going for the most likely scenario is marriage=babies. That is, getting married means they were also ready for/wanting to get pregnant. They started trying as soon as the wedding date was set. And just happened to get pregnant fairly quickly.

    • I thought about that, but I don’t think the timing works. More likely they started trying to get pregnant as soon as they began planning the wedding, made the decision to get married and get pregnant simultaneously.

  1. I will come back to this if I can articulate my thoughts more coherently, but they are as follows.
    1) I decided to check my phone half asleep at 8am and this was the first thing I saw and my initial reaction was sitting up, going “wtf??” And posting it to all my social media platforms/texting everyone I know who cares
    2) my way out conspiracy is that she was pregnant before the wedding and that’s why they got married when they did. Either that or they’re being actual idiots and announcing it before it’s safe to from a pregnancy standpoint. The other DCIB-ers who have kids know what I’m talking about, I can’t articulate it right, I’m still tired.

    • 1) I think we are all going there immediately. But it just doesn’t make sense to me, the wedding wasn’t rushed, there were rumors of the engagement and wedding date for a while in advance. I’m going for more of a “I want to have a baby as soon as we are married, let’s start trying to get pregnant while we are planning the wedding” theory. So the two things just happened to happen almost simultaneously.

In which case, UGH. So you can’t just get married because you love each other, it has to be a whole marriage=babies kind of situation. Like, they would have just continued living together with no commitment if they hadn’t wanted kids. I’m also not articulating it right, but something about it feels icky to me.

      • Yeah, this is ick central, and makes me lose respect for the both of them, regardless of what the story really is. Which sucks cuz I love Alia and want what’s best for her and this is really not it.

      • They were planning for a wedding in June, probably in Rajasthan. A fancy destination wedding like their peers however I think Alia became pregnant in the wedding preparation which is why they preponed the wedding. Thats why many relatives also said how the wedding was planned in 10 days. So now they’ve announced her pregnancy and I’m guessing she is around 3-4 months pregnant. This is my theory as I remember seeing blinds since December about their wedding being super extravagant and suddenly they had this simple home wedding.

  2. Certainly a surprise, but happy for her! The Brahmastra promotions are going to be wild, if she even does them. When is it releasing again?

Question: What new movies are you watching? Are you even watching anything new?

I watched Bhool Bhulaiya 2 and had fun with it. Tabu was the highlight. Kiara was fine, Kartik was surprisingly good and it was a silly but solid entertainer.

    • I am not watching anything new! I am exhausted. Covering for multiple people at work, trying to deal with summer yard stuff, and various other things happening. I’m too tired to even feel guilty about not watching new things 🙂 I’ll watch things in the fall, when life is calmer.

  3. Oof, that was fast. Together forever, now, one way or another. Based on nothing, I feel like Alia could be a strong and caring mom, and I have no confidence in Ranbir’s chances of not making fatherhood all about himself and his needs. What are we working with in terms of extended family? Aunties, uncles, cousins, grandparents?

    • I love Alia’s family, they are so weird and arty and blunt and honest, and also very loving and stable. Her older sister has severe clinical depression which she is managing, her other older sister is a recovering alcoholic as is her Dad, her Mom is described as very calm and steady and go with the flow in the middle of all of this. So, her Mom and sisters and Dad are all great loving people who are 100% there for her, while struggling with their own issues. If she wants to go back to work, or leave Ranbir, or do basically anything, her family will be there with no judgement. So that’s great!

Meanwhile, on Ranbir’s side, there is a sister who married years ago and lives outside of Bombay somewhere, and his Mom who he has always been very close to and seems even closer to since the death of his father. However, there is also the rumored “Kapoor wives don’t work” tradition. So it is possible Ranbir’s Mom may not support or help Alia if she wants to go back to work. Certainly her mother-in-law didn’t support her.

      • Agree with everything Margaret said. Pooja Bhatt also got divorced after 11 years of marriage and it was no fuss and everyone in the Bhatt family was supportive.

In a weird way, I am thankful Ranbir married Alia and none of his other exs because Neetu at least on social media seems to adore Alia. I think Alia will keep working, and I don’t think Neetu will interfere just based on how quickly she went back to working after Rishi died. I am more worried about Neetu’s advice and “support” if Ranbir cheats or stops being a good husband.

  4. I think she was already pregnant, the timeline works. Generally in India, no one reports a pregnancy until the first three months are over and the doctor gives an all-clear. I highly doubt this is the 10 week scan when they first found out.

Also, who wears a cap to a gyno appointment? Me thinks he is trying to hide some baldness issues.

  5. I was sure they will have a baby quickly. Neetu was all: “why my golden boy should buy a cow if he can be a fuckboy” earlier, but I’m sure that in the last years she changed her mind and started pressing him to marry and have kids. Ranbir and Alia married to officially start a family. But what I find annoying is that she just had some work in Hollywood, and now will be in maternity leave.

  6. I think the timing of the wedding and pregnancy is somewhere between what you said and what Anonymous said above. They were planning a more elaborate wedding and likely started trying, thinking it wasn’t going to happen right away but it did so they had to cancel everything and plan a wedding at home within a week. I am guessing this is also why the bigger reception was canceled.
