Sunday WatchAlong: Hum Hain Rahe Pyar Ke! For Shelomit! 12:30pm Chicago Time!

Happy Sunday! We are watching this perfectly pleasant 90s movie that, somehow, is a beloved favorite of many of you. But, WHY??? I understand liking it, I like it myself, but a favorite? Oh well, I live to serve, so y’all get to have a nice watchalong with me.

Hum Hain Rahe Pyar Ke is all over the place, on einthusan and for rent on youtube and maybe for free with no subs on youtube too. Seems like it’s mostly the same length in all those places too, so it won’t matter much which you choose. Pick one and join us!

At 12:30pm Chicago time, I will put up an “and PLAY” comment and we will go from there!

  1. Well, it’s based on no real person living or dead, but it is a ripoff of the Hollywood film Houseboat without any royalties paid. Oh well, Hollywood has enough money.

  2. As a kid, I was in a big crafts store (Hobby Lobby? Michael’s?) and heard my name over the PA. I thought I was being called, so I reported to whichever department they mentioned. Turned out they simply had an employee with the same first name as me and I was separating myself from my parents rather than returning myself to them!

  3. Perhaps this is merely an aspect of Japanese business culture with which I’m unacquainted, but it always seems to me as though Mishra ji has just finished running a footrace the way he’s always clutching his side.

  4. Whether it is this movie or Dil Hai Ki Manta Nahin, Mahesh Bhatt does such a wonderful job taking an American movie and making it resonate with an Indian audience while highlighting the feminist message!

    • Her super jerky, awkward “dance of last resort” thing in this song kind of reminds me of how Neetu starts dancing in vaguely similar circumstances in “Humne Tumko Dekha.”
