Monday Morning Questions: What Do You Want to Ask Me the Week the Gal Godot-Alia Bhatt Trailer Came Out?

Happy Monday! One week from today, my nephews will be visiting! We are gonna be at the lake house, and my Mom is focused on Locks. Nephew A is almost 4 and fearless in the “if I feel like riding my toy car down the street at 3am and the door is unlocked, I will” kind of way. My thought was, I just put my bedroll down outside the exit of his bedroom, Problem Solved. Also, leashes. It works with Albie Dog.

Here is where you get to ask me anything you want from “why can’t you just teach your nephew to follow the rules?” to “wait, does this mean you won’t be able to watch new movies next week?” Just keep swinging back here all week as you think of new questions!

Now, question for you! What do we think of this Gal Godot-Alia Bhatt Heart of Stone trailer? I think it is a great use of Alia’s babyface, for one thing. Making her this tiny slip of a person the Big Bad is brilliant. For another thing, I think there is a decent chance it turns out that Gal Godot’s agency has been lying to her and she and Alia team up to take it down in the end.

  3. the plot feels very contrived and confusing, but i have loved both gal and alia for years, so as soon as i heard they were doing a film together, i knew it was gonna be an automatic watch for me. i screamed when it was revealed that alia was the villain. so unexpected for her baby face, i agree. i hope she pulls it off. and if we get gal/alia badass friendship, i won’t make it out of this movie alive. they already seem to be sweet friends off screen from the event when the trailer was released

    • Courtney – I was hoping you would respond to this post!!! You may be the biggest Alia fan on this site so I was hoping you would be excited. I adore Gal and Alia too and having Alia be the main villain with her cherubic face is just brilliant!!!

  5. I saw the movie Red Notice on Netflix with the family, it had Gal Gadot, the only time I’ve seen her I think. She wasn’t bad, but wasn’t super memorable.

After seeing the trailer I feel like this is Netflix’s answer to Prime’s Citadel. Which makes me sad as then I kinda feel like Alia was cast to be their Priyanka and Alia is worth more than that. But in the full truth is I love these action movies, especially when women are doing the action. I will probably really like it.

Also I saw Bholaa, and the action choreography was SO GOOD. honestly the choreography was was better than Pathaan, but there weren’t helicopters, amazing cinematography, or SRK & John Abram & Deepika. But still, amazing action. I do like action.

    • Oooh! I was debating watching Bholaa and now I will. Thank you! I was never a huge Ajay fan when he was young but he is seriously getting better with age.

I adore action movies too and having the main heroine and the main villain be females is about as close to a fanfic come to life as possible (besides Ghosted but that didn’t have any Indian actors)!

Also, I was worried Alia would have a small role like Priyanka did in many of her initial films but having her be the main bad girl with her baby face has to be a brilliant move on her part for her career. And I love Gal’s trajectory too. She became a huge sensation/house hold name when she was cast as Wonder Woman. I am super excited for this movie!!!

  6. I am more excited by the trailer of R aur R than I was by the poster. I mean, it’s got Dharmendra and Jaya and Shabana and Alia running around in the sno in Switzerland (I’m guessing) in a chiffon sari. Looks worth watching and I hope it’s not terrible.

  7. I went on a first date last weekend. And I’ve been chatting to this guy since. I haven’t seen matrix movies i happened to mention jhms to him. He suggested we trade movies ie he shows me matrix and I show him jhms. I told him I’ll find another srk movie.

I find jhms connects with such personal pain that I can’t watch it with anyone yet.

What would be your recommendation for a second date SRK movie – something that shows why I (and we all) love him so much without turning me into an emotional wreck???

I’m so glad I have you (all) to ask this question

          • Hey, Im impressed you are out there trying! And forget dating, sharing SRK with someone new is always High Stress. Yes Boss? K3G? Kal ho na ho?

          • That might be good. Watch out, a non-desi may make fun of a lot of things. I’m usually too afraid to do something super 90s like KKHH because they may make fun of it, so I lean more watered down westernized like Don. But if it’s a date, you can control it!

          • Oh yeah you’re right. Maybe Pathaan then? It’s new and not 90s.
Or I should stick with JHMS… My dating coach and I agree that I’m not comfortable hanging out in his living room yet so I guess it might be a later problem.

Don is definitely fun and might be a good start and I can watch it too. With other movies I tend to skip bits I’ve watched many times

          • I feel like Chak De India is the easiest to translate for westerners, or Swades but it’s longer. Don is a good choice for a Matrix fan, Raees could play well too. If you want something more fun and romantic, maybe RNBDJ?

          • Thank you. Yes I was thinking RNBDJ too. Right now it’s between Don and RNBDJ for me. As I can watch both those movies these days without wanting to skip pieces

          • I second Chak De or Don also. I think they are the easiest to introduced to someone who is more westernized. Yes Boss would be my pick for 90s. Other options: Maybe Dear Zindagi or One 2 Ka Four? I personally love KKHH but I know that movie has strong reactions on both ends so might be risky for a first movie.

          • Dear Zindagi is again too heavy with childhood trauma and past relationships. I have trouble navigating this guy away from those topics, i don’t want to encourage more discussion there just yet, I’d rather get to know him in the present first

          • I think Pathaan would work too! It’s really fantastic if he enjoys action, a hero and villain who are equally matched, and a pretty awesome female action lead.

          • Oh… and I know I am in the minority here, but I have huge problems with/strong reactions to the ending of RNBDJ so again, maybe be brace yourself for a potentially negative reaction. Again, I am in the minority so this will likely not happen. But I remember you had mentioned that you were upset with someone you knew who disliked Pathaan so just wanted to give you a quick heads up as a caution. Best of luck!

          • Oh yes there’s that. And the premise that she doesn’t recognize her husband in different clothes that would be a bummer. I am so sensitive to someone disliking srk… This makes me feel very vulnerable

  8. Now that we’ve reached our vacation spot and I have wifi, that trailer looks great. I liked but didn’t love The Old Guard but this writer has a good track record and I like this premise better. Also just seeing Alia in an action villain role playing off Gal Godot, hell yes.

Did you know the writer wrote Wonder Woman comics for DC for a stretch? Seems like a good fit. (And unlike the bloated Citadel, these Bourne-style Netflix originals tend to be taut and disciplined genre vehicles, if anything not ambitious enough.)
