An afternoon watchalong! Radical! And Dil To Pagal Hai, a movie I find dull, but SRK is charming and the songs are okay, so I will survive.
Dil To Pagal Hai
It’s on Prime, and available for rent at all the places. My second least favorite Madhuri-SRK collaberation (Koyla, Anjaam, Gaja Gamini, Hum Tumhare Hain Sanam, Dil To Pagal Hai, Devdas), but undeniably a hit and important in the great Shahrukh Khan story.

At 4pm Chicago time, I will put up an “And PLAY!” comment and then we will all comment along from there.
Madhuri should not have had a spandex overall… mre like the dancers behind her would have been better for her

That was a really cute “Now I know I am in love” moment though. It’s not her dancing or being beautiful or any of that. It’s her being silly and goofy and also showing how much she remembers of what he says to her.

Even the black lehenga choli, which is mostly a pretty successful look, seems like it doesn’t quite fit Madhuri (small across the shoulders in the front, I think).

I had a mad desire to watch the movie a second time because I wanted to watch both sets of them and couldn’t do it side by side as a kid!

So Margaret you see saying that they were showcasing a new choreographer? Did he have much success after this? I wonder because I don’t think he is very good….

Weird connection, I know someone who went to Bombay Scottish a few years after Hrithik, and they did have Shiamak’s group come in for their dance classes.

Ah, really interesting double screen! It’s them being cute and living together, and then their dream selves being romantic. Goes along with that “I am in love” realization moment. what he loves most is the goofy collaberative times with her, and even when they fight, there is that undertone of romance.

Do you think he was spinning a duplicate or someone else when he had her lifted? Didn’t seem like Madhuri to me

Not sure, if it wasn’t Madhuri I would think they had to use a trained dancer for safety for that move. But it’s Madhuri, she could do it.

No in the U.S. we have to refridgerate our eggs because of how they clean them before they get to the store. BUT if I had my own chickens I would totally keep eggs on top of the fridge.

This song is reminding me that SRK and Madhuri actually have great song chemistry a lot of times. It’s all about her dancing and him admiring. Anjaam, Koyla, Devdas, that’s what works. them doing a dance off type side by side thing is just not right.

Yes. And this is also reminding me of the whole debate of did they have sex or not while dholna was showing to us 😀

YES! That is also what I was thinking about! Because their characters are definitely in a “everything is different now” place, but could that just be a kiss and a hug?

Also, because of they typing I miss a bunch of subtitles, so does SRK know she is engaged to someone else?

It’s really tragic to me that Karisma, who has been so upstanding through (almost) all of this and clear and honest with everybody, thinks she isn’t an “achhi lardki.”
LikeLiked by 2 people
And the whole concept of “good girl”. Like she could just leave and put space in the friendship. Self preservation = vamp. Self sacrifice = good girl
LikeLiked by 1 person
Oooo! And that’s the added thing withthe lake scene. She TRIED to preserve herself, she left for a long time, then came back and when she was upset went off by herself. It was SRK who chased her down, not because he loved her but because he was her friend and could tell she was hurting. Total flip of the usual way the third leg of the triangle just disappears.
LikeLiked by 3 people
Yes. Another thing I realized how he made time to look after her and listen to her. And yet later when Madhuri is trying to get his attention, he’s completely not getting it. Busy in putting up the show. Already taking that relationship for granted?
