Monday Morning Questions: What Do You Want to Ask Me the Week Before CHRISTMAS????

Happy Monday! And Happy One Week to Christmas!!!! I am all settled in at my sister’s with a baby who hates me and a 4 year old who likes to teach me things about how cars work.

Here is where you get to ask me anything you want from “have you shown the babies any Indian songs?” to “Are you going to see Dunki or WHAT?” Just keep swinging back here all week as you think of new questions!

Now, question for you! Who is your favorite character in the Nativity Scene? Not, like, based on the story, but just to play with the figures?

I liked Mary the best because she had the pretty long hair, or second best would be a Three King IF he was riding a camel. I liked playing with the camel.

  1. Definitely agree about the camel. My parents got a new Nativity Scene pretty late in my childhood – toy-sized wooden figurines painted in all kinds of cheerful colors – and my sisters and I were immediately playing with them. It wasn’t about the three kings reaching Bethlehem anymore, it was about the camel getting there. The little sheep dog only managed to be a distant second because he could actually stand *on* the manger.

  2. I don’t know about my favorite nativity character but we took Mr. T to the same nativity scene that husband used to go to as a child and he LOVED feeding hay/glass to the sheep! So his favorite character is the children feeding the animals!

    • I think I have never been to a living Nativity scene! Which is kind of odd now that I think about it. Maybe there was some sort of regulation in my home town against it?

      • Hmm interesting. I wonder if there is. Question for your father?

Also, excuse the type! It’s supposed to say “grass” not “glass.” Mr. Toddles was not feeding sheep glass! 😬

  3. Ooh! Question for you! Do you have plans to watch Dunki with Sister? When is the last time you watched a Shah Rukh movie (or any movie) with Sister in a theater?

    • I think last movie I watched with Sister in a theater was Frozen 2! Whenever that was. We may or may not be able to watch Dunki in theaters, but it’s at least possible. My parents are arriving that day, so they could attempt solo babysitting and we could attempt solo movie watching.

    • It’s a model of Jesus birth, so him in the manger, 3 kings coming to give him presents, the shepherds, and his parents. And sometimes a bunch of animals who might have been in the barn where Jesus was born.

People put them in yards and even have life size ones, or living ones with real animals and actors playing the people. But most families also have a toy size set that the kids like playing with.

      • Oh baby Jesus, I loved him so much so much. I have memories of being a kid and staring at the little baby toy and thinking he’s going to grow up to be God (that was the story my granddad told me); it also helped that we had live nativity scenes (at school) and the big question was always who plays baby Jesus (it was usually a live baby, the sibling of one of us kindergarteners ha). I thinkkk I got to play a tree which may or may not have been accurate to the actual Nativity scene (but surely there were trees in the barn too!!)

Great question Margaret, thanks for the trip down the memory lane!

  4. I’m thinking to go to the UUFS winter solstice event tonight. Can I just show up or do I need to contact someone before rocking up? I tried calling them but couldn’t get through so wanted to ask you Margaret

  7. My friend is taking her 9 year old daughter (my son’s classmate) to India for a month to attend a 4 day wedding in Jaipur and to meet her great aunts before they die. And I am so excited for her – for the girl, my friend has been to India before, so less excited for the experienced traveller and more excited for the kid. They are not a much of a TV family, and in fact my friend has bad memories of being forced to watch three hour Indian movies as a child, but ages ago I did get them to see DDLJ, which they liked.

Now I’m trying to get them to come over to see Khoobsurat, Paheli, and Jodha Akbar before they leave. Those are good Jaipur movies right? The Amer Fort/Amber Fort/Amber Palace are in Khoobsurat and Jodha Akbar and I think a lot of the Paheli scenes if not specific to Jaipur are at least indicative of the region?

Is there some amazing movie that would appeal to a 9 year old that I am missing? And do you think a 9 year old would like or get bored by Jodha Akbar?
