The Women Are Coming!!!! Heeramandi and Crew Trailers

Thank you lovely readers for alerting me to these! They both look fun and female and make me happy, yaaaaaaaay!

Crew

Kareena, Tabu, Kriti! What a FABULOUS cast!!! And what a really great idea for a setting, “Air Hostess” is one of the most stable filmi heroine jobs, but we never have a movie that digs into what the day to day of that life is, behind any glamour. And here we have a crew with the Old Hand Tabu, the mid-career Kareena, and the bright eyed Kriti. Air Hostess and Actress are two careers that I can believe women have been working steadily from the 90s to today! The trailer I watched didn’t have subs, but I don’t really care because I got the vibe of it. They find gold bars randomly during a flight, then work together through various hijinks to hold on to the cash and change their lives. Oh, and the second best part (second to the cast), SAME WRITERS AS VEERE DI WEDDING!!! Only thing that makes me nervous is that it’s a first time director, hmmm.

Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar

Oh dear Bhansali. I love this cast, love love love Sonakshi, Aditi, Manisha, thrilled they get big centerpiece stories. But on the other hand, Bhansali’s take on history is so infuriating!!! I’m not even talking about the Islamophobia stuff, he just sort of turns the past into a pretty fairy tale instead of dealing with it as a place with layers and complexity and shades of grey. Which makes it all the easier to think of present day things as black and white and simple. And see, this is why I try not to watch Bhansali! Because he turns me into “angry bitter Margaret” and I don’t like her.

  1. Tabu is what got me, this is the first trailer that’s made me feel excited in a long time. Can’t wait to see Crew in the theater with a friend 🙂.
Bhansali…not sure I have the energy for extended series length drama Bhansali. It’s a wait and see for me.
(also, with apologies for whining, the WordPress updates are the worst. I lost a whole long comment the other day when the tab refreshed itself. boo.)

  3. I’m not super excited for The Crew so far. Maybe because the trailer doesn’t have subs or maybe because I don’t like movies about prople stealing something?

Heeramandi I love for the women, and I love that SLB is just doing his thing, choosing the women he likes without looking at current popularities and stuff. I find it refreshing.

  4. And talking about the movies with/about women – I read recently that Vikas Bahl finished the script for Queen 2. My first comment was: Who will watch this film? A “feminist” movie made by a rapist with an actress who’s famous for belittling, offending and slut-shaming other women. What do y’all think? Some people argued with me saying that Kangu is not that bad as I think and that nobody cares what Vikas did because Super 30 was a hit. But wasn’t Bahl’s name cancelled from the movie? Now he has a new movie coming in March , with Ajay Devgn and Maddy (who comes with new ways to hurt me 😉 ) but I won’t watch it even for free, the same with Queen 2.

    • I agree, I can’t imagine enjoying a Queen 2. What are they going to do with that character now? The first movie feels like it was from a different era now, the world around it, including the people who made it, wear such different faces than they did then. Even the plot of a woman traveling alone on a journey of empowerment that requires leaving India to find herself…it feels impossible.

  5. I’m excited for Crew it looks super fun and I’m so happy to see Kareena in a commercial/glamorous role after a long time. Heeramandi – I am not so sure about because I don’t know how the story will span out. But I love the cast and love the costumes
