I feel like with all the SRK coverage lately, I haven’t been paying enough attention to Salman. And terrible terrible things happen when Salman feels like he is being ignored. Plus, he did just escape from 15 years in prison, he needs to be celebrated! And he also just made the list of sexiest Asian men (that kid from One Direction is on top, Hrithik is second, SRK is 9, Aamir didn’t make it).
So, yesterday I posted about what a great business man SRK is. Salman just doesn’t seem that interested in business, but I think he probably has quite the natural knack for it, in his own totally nutso way.
He worked with his brother’s production house before, gave him Dabangg (huge hit), which let the profits literally stay in the family. But this year he launched his own production house, Salman Khan Films, with two movies in rapid succession. Bajrangi Bhaijaan, starring him, was a brilliant business decision. He reunited with his Ek Tha Tiger director, Kabir Khan, who had given him a huge hit in the past and, more importantly, really seemed to get his appeal. He brought in his old friend Kareena Kapoor to play a reliable big name co-star who he wouldn’t have to pay. And to balance her out, he brought in Naseeruddin Siddiqui, an actual brilliant actor who isn’t a big enough star to say no to anything Salman wants.
Actually, no one is a big enough star to say “no” to Salman, this interview with the director of the other film he produced, Hero, is hilarious as he keeps trying to convey that to the interviewer! Hero is where I think Salman really proved his business savvy. It was more or less of a flop, but it was a safe flop. He took a chance on two fairly well-connected industry kids, no one is going to fault him for that. And if nothing else, he gained a closer relationship with their parents. And he limited the number of prints just enough, so that he could still guarantee a big box office without going into debt.
Most importantly, he gave us this video, which is the best thing in the history of the world:
GLASSES!!!
Very Clark Kent! I heard he has a biography coming out for his 50th birthday. It will be very interesting!

I am positive he doesn’t actually need them, but thought they would make him look artistic for the song.
And now I have to track down the bio and see if I can get a copy!
