2 industry news items today! One which is important in general for, like, society. And the other, which is very important for, like, ME!
Udta Punjab is the biggest opener of 2016! Beating Airlift‘s opening weekend, with 33.80 crore. Which means “A” level films can make a profit, and the censor board failed in its attempt to stop people from seeing the film. Which could mean a huge shift in the industry, towards high quality ensemble pieces instead of star driven films. And towards more “adult” in every way kind of topics.
On the other hand, Eros just bought out Vashu Bhagnani’s film company, Puja Films. Which I hope means Jackky Bhagnani’s film career is finally done, our long international nightmare is over, now that Daddy no longer has his own production company to back him. But more importantly, the Puja Films library might be showing up on ErosNow! Yaaaaaaaay! My subscription is finally justified!
Oh, and one final bit of news, the annual Siddique Iftaar party was last night. Less exciting now that Salman and Shahrukh are officially friends again, so we don’t all have to wait on tenterhooks to see if they have their annual hug. This year, there was some hope that we would get a Sanjay and Salman hug instead (there’s been an odd coolness since Sanjay got out of jail). But instead, the big news is that women were invited for the first time! Supposedly because Salman and Alvira Khan suggested it. And Katrina was there, interacting with the Khan family, and Iulia Vantar was NOT. So, are Salman and Katrina back on? Is Iulia off? Or is this all just a coincidence?
Also, who is the guy that Kat is walking around with hand in hand?
