This is TGIF, it’s supposed to be a happy post. So no grieving here, just celebration of life. A big part of which was her clothes, remember how she was the best dressed at Anushka’s reception? And what we can learn from her, both in what clothes we want to wear, and the attitude we want to have when we wear them.
Sridevi in Western Wear

And again

In peach!

Western Casual

Young Western Casual

And again

Classic younger Salwar Sridevi

Another classic younger Salwar

Another younger Salwar Sridevi!

And a whole collection of older Salwar formal Sridevis!

So far I’ve been more or less sticking with real life clothes. Let’s have some fun, costumes! So many iconic ones!

Recent film

Roop Ki Rani again, same movie as the chainmail sleeves

Shoulder pads shirt is so-so, but the whip is an excellent accessory

Hawa Hawaii, obviously

A see through raincoat and hat, instantly iconic

Or how about the simple sari, trenchcoat, and Starbucks look?
![]()
Or one of the most iconic simple wet saris ever

Finally, one more from Puli, reminding us she is our queen.
Finally, grand finale, Sari Sridevi!

Another!

Another!

Very formal

Another one!

Day wear version

A bit bolder in pattern

Bravely contrasting colors

Red and gold, classic

Now, here’s the two questions:
If you could borrow one of these outfits to wear one day in your life, which would it be?
I think I gotta go with the silver outfit from Puli, looks comfortable, and also I feel like it would be very helpful in moving through my life with confidence.

If you could be Sridevi, her whole aura with attitude and personality and everything else, from one of these pictures, which would it be?
I think this one. I’m already very much like Sridevi-in-a-Salwar in personality, but I think I’d love to have her aggression and confidence and everything else she brings to young-Sridevi-in-Jeans

Nice! “One day in my life” outfit would be the red one from Puli. I love that shade of red. Also looks fairly comfy.
The “being Sri Devi” I love all of her modern salwar looks. Colors, patterns, and styles are great.

Excellent choices! And now I am picturing my one Sridevi day in grey and your one day in red overlapping and us meeting in the street and havinga fight to the death because there can be only one Queen.
I love how Sridevi took the innocent youthful look of the cotton Salwars and changed it into something loose and elegant and mature in her later years.

Or, could we form an alliance and take over neighboring patriarchal kingdoms or something? I don’t know, I haven’t seen the movie!

I haven’t seen the movie either! But I know it was a big hero film, so either Sridevi allied with a young prince, or battled a young prince. But a young prince was definitely in there somewhere.

Pink shirt and high-waisted jeans Sridevi is very au courant. My neighborhood is littered with hipsters wearing that look.
The sari she wore to the Dubai wedding was spectacular. She looked amazing.

I was thinking its beginning to move beyond the hipsters, I am getting a vague feeling of 80s/90s retro chic coming in. Which supports my theory that everything 25 years old becomes cool because it is what things looked like when the current peak consumers were kids and happy (Happy Days, That 70s Show, The Americans, Fresh Off the Boat, and so on and so on).
And that sari is gorgeous! I love the mix of pastels.

I would borrow the red dress from Puli too, so gorgeous!! And Sridevi looks chic in Western casuals. Unlike Madhuri, she could really carry off Western outfits with ease, maybe because of her height and figure.

My only concern with the red dress is that I think I would be constantly hitting people (sometimes myself) with those spikey gold accents.

Oh right! I didn’t notice it at all.

Beautiful post π
I would borrow third salwar/anarkali from four-salwar-together picture. So pretty.
And if I could be Sridevi with attitude and personality, I would be wet blue sari Sridevi without doubt.
Bonus mention for first casual look (grey shirt-green pants) I don’t want to borrow it, I want buy it and use it everyday.

Agree with your bonus round for sure. I already have the beige-tan ankle boots and handbag and green skinny pants, and I wear these 3 regularly together. I even have the haircut and color. I just need that top in that color. And the nude-peach lipcolor.

I think the third Salwar would also be my third choice from that collection. I like the brightly colored first one, and then the elegant grey one, and then that one. Or maybe I am just being brainwashed because that’s the order they are displayed in.

Burrow for a day
GoT-like silver Lehnga & crown to the GoT final season premiere party.
Or the Himmatwala gold number, esp the with snakey crown, for Halloween.
Attitude
“Nothing comes between me and my Calvins” Sridevi in the dark jeans and sheer top.
Or her confidence in a sari. All the saree looks are her best looks here. She plays it very safe in her salwar looks, western formal, western casual – she mostly focuses on fit and color. She’s on trend but doesn’t push any envelopes. But she is a *little* more daring and fashion forward in her saree choices & accessories, color schemes, fabrics, prints, borders, and she seems quite pleased to wear the saree drape, like she’s in her element.

I suspect there will be many many Hawa Hawaii Sridevi’s this Halloween. It’s such a distinctive look, but also fairly easy to accomplish, you just need a gold dress, and you can cut that crown out of cardboard and paint it super easily.
