I actually ran the numbers for 2017. Claudia, my German reader, by posting 9 times in a German language fan forum, gained me 506 new readers. Not all of them stayed, but 506 separate people clicked through from her comments to my blog.
Someone else who I don’t know posted twice in the comments on a Bhawadraj Rangan review and gained me 177 click throughs. In contrast, I wrote a guest post for srkuniverse, a massive fan community, and that post with their official stamp of approval got me only 66 views.
So when I say to you that the best way to gain me new views is to put a link in the comments of another site, or in another forum, I’m not kidding! It’s practically the only way. And it isn’t something I can do for myself, no one clicks through links posted by the author.
So, here’s your monthly request to please help by posting links to my related content on other sites.
Oh, and also, COMMENT!!!! I also ran the numbers on that. Every comment gets me 20 views. People who may have already seen the post clicking through to it, others who wouldn’t have read it otherwise clicking through to read the comments. It doesn’t have to be a brilliant comment, just say “I love this film! —— was so good in their role!”, that’s enough. Or, if you want to be really easy, just answer the questions at the end of the TGIF or FanFic posts.
So, two things. Real simple. And that have an enormous effect.

Wow! Never thought that the posted links would get such a response. Well, to be honest, I really think that your way of expressing your opinion and your look on Indian Cinema is worth to be read. I also mentioned your blog on an english-language forum but I only know about one who came and is now a regular here 🙂 I do mention you also on my twitter account but as I don’t follow anyone I don’t have many that follow me. I gave the link to your JabHarryMetSejal coverage to Imtiaz and ShahRukh, but there too, no idea if they read you (although Imtiaz answered that he would take a look).

Yep! People on your forums must really trust you! Everyone clicks through. I don’t know if you are the only person who reads here that is a member of other communities, or if it is that no one else wants to bother posting links, but you are definitely my single soul rock star recommender.

I think a lot of people do! Judging by the way my view counts look, I think at least half of my readers just come by to see if there are new comments instead of new posts. So every brilliant thing you say is being read by dozens of people who never comment.

I like to refer to you if there is a subject you have written about (be it a movie or a 101 theme or whatever) 🙂 unfortunately, not all in the German forum (which spans a vast variety of Indian filmindustry related themes but nevertheless has the most number of visitors in the ShahRukh section) are familiar with the English language. The english writing forum I am a member of is mainly ShahRukh-focussed and it isn’t highly active. I have to admit that the time I like/have to invest just restricts me to two forums and your blog (and some random twitter-news)…

Yep! I always want more comments!
Also, remember the goshdarn dog? I’ve still got her, which means my blogging time is cut by about a 3rd. Lots of nice comments and conversation helps me fill in that 1/3rd gap. Someday, when I am dogless (or at least without this dog), I can go back to little news posts.

Irritatingly energetic, she is getting bored with me and my just sitting around all day. But I just had my revenge, I gave her a bath tonight, and now she is slightly wet and miserable and smells like baby shampoo. And is also a little afraid of me.

It’s been two months 😦 She was supposed to go back to the shelter once her treatment was over, but she was so aggressive to other dogs that she couldn’t stay there, so I still have her. Because I am a saint and I can’t bring myself to leave her there where she was so unhappy. But if/when someone is interested, I get to bring her back for a meet and greet and see if they fall in love with her.
