Stressful Weekend, Sorry So Few Posts

I made it!  Sunday night!  I thought I would never get here.  But I did, and I am in bed, and tomorrow morning I get to go to work which will be strangely relaxing after everything else.

So, what happened was, my grandfather had a minor health thing.  Only he’s 96, so nothing is minor.

(Shortness of breath and stuff)

Don’t focus on that bit, he’s fine-ish now (again, 96, so never really fine).  Focus on the scramble of finding time and place and people to cover everything with this major wrench thrown into things.  Especially since it was already going to be a difficult weekend.

(Saturday, Saturday, let’s go do laundry, buy groceries, write 5 blog posts, clean the apartment, and somehow also host relatives and find a dog!)

The thing is, my sister and brother-in-law were in town this weekend and my mother was out of town at a conference, so it landed with my father rushing around doing stuff for Grandpa, while the three “young people” were left on their own to rummage for food and stuff.  Well, I was fine, but I felt an obligation to hang out with my sister and brother-in-law and help them rummage.  Up to and including staying at my parents’ place with them last minute on Friday night so they would have my car to use in the morning.

(Like this, except stressed and sleep-deprived and confused and all smashed into my one car as we drove back and forth and back and forth between apartments)

It did start looking up on Sunday.  My Dad’s favorite destressing activity is small household repairs, and my sister’s is knitting.  So I got a new hot-potholder and all my doorknobs are tightened up and new kitchen shelves installed and hooks put up in my bedroom.

(My destressing activity is watching this scene over and over again)

So, the end result was, I managed to watch my Telugu and Malayalam weekly films, and see a dog, and get about 6 hours of sleep a night on average, and have nice sisterly and brother-in-law-ly bonding time, but blogging kind of fell off a little bit.  Oh, and it’s still falling, tonight after work I get to take my sister to the airport.  Since my parents are still running around with Grandpa stuff.  Fun!  No really, it will be nice to have a little more sister time.

(This is all I could think of for an airport song)

So this post is partly my de-stressing, getting everything written out so it seems smaller, and also a bit of a warning.  You know how hard I try to stay on schedule, but the “Monday Malayalam” may go up a little after midnight on Tuesday morning instead, and the “Tuesday Telugu” may turn into a “Thursday Telugu”.

    • We only had time for one and I picked Ashta Chamma, because it is good and short and we both know the original play so well that we could be interrupted by phone calls multiple times and still follow it.

  1. I bet you were wonderful like your sister wrote, Margaret 🙂 (I like it when you write your personal stuff…even the stressing one, in such a humerous way…still I hope that for the next time you won’t get things fixed in your apartment and a sister-knitted gift because of not so positive reasons 😉 🙂 )

  2. I’m glad your grandfather is doing better now.

Did you watch the films with your sister and brother in law as part of the family bonding experience?

    • No, it was one of those weekends where every time we sat down, the phone would ring and we would have to go off and do something again. I did manage to rewatch Ashta Chamma with my sister, but that was because we both had the original play memorized so we could still follow the plot despite so many interruptions that it took us 5 hours to finish a 2 hour movie.
