Blog Still on Schedule to Die, 28 Months Left-Reminder to Donate

Monthly reminder that writing doesn’t come out of thin air, and I don’t exist on thin air either, so if you enjoy my content, you really should consider paying for it.  And slightly different content than last month’s post, if you want an update on what’s happening.

I put up a post last month saying that the blog would go away unless donations got back on track.  And I got a new donation from that, yaaaaaay!  Thank you thank you, I appreciate you, single person who donated.  And I got 3 more donations from my regular stalwarts who throw me money from time to time.  But it would have been nice if more than one new person donated last month, 99% of you are still being carried by the 1% of my regular readers who actually donate, even if it is just a dollar.  Really, just $1, less than the price of coffee, and it would make such a difference to me.

I’ll explain more, but first, if you want to help me get back on track, here are the donation options:

Become a Patron!

If you set up a monthly subscription to me through them (just like you do for Netflix and magazines and all the other entertainment sources you use), I will mail you a thank you card!  It doesn’t have to be a lot, it can be just $1 a month if you want.  $5 or more a month gets you a card for every holiday.  $10 or more a month gets you a card EVERY SINGLE MONTH!!!!  And who wouldn’t want one of my cards every month?

Or you can do a one time donation below

Donate

To help support my work, donate to the site, $1 or $2 or $20 or $200, however much you want.

$1.00

Or at least, purchase my book (purchase here)!  It’s really good, and I want more people to read it.

This month I added on a new expense, I went ahead and hired someone to help with social media.  Which is a new expense that doesn’t result in a new profit, that is, social media is great for getting new readers, but it’s not going to get me any money, because new readers are a dime a dozen.  Well, more accurately, a dime per one thousand.  Whatever you think advertising rates are for websites, divide that by a 100.  It is about 8 cents per 1,000 views.  1,000 views by people who aren’t using an adblocker.  In order to break even on top of what I am spending for the domain and now for social media, not even counting movie tickets and gas money, I need to get 100,000 views every month from people without an adblocker.  And that’s just to break even on WordPress and social media manager costs.

That’s why myself, and every other website like me, has started begging for donations.  Because the advertising money isn’t going to cut it, not until you grow freakishly large.  And so if you are serious about doing this, and if you don’t have the luxury of not worrying about money, the only place to get money to keep going is from your readers’ wallets.

So, that’s what’s at stake, that’s why I keep putting up these posts every month.  Because I really do want to keep going, if I can.  Because I LOVE YOU ALL, and I love doing this writing this blog, and I want to keep it alive.

    • Maybe next month’s version is just a big photo of Dog Hazel begging and a request to send me money so I can buy her more treats.
