Quickie News Post: Bachchan Swag, Prerna in Jail Still, Vikrant Massay Has a Job

Quick little baby stories, but still fun to talk about! All I have scheduled for later today is another Mahabharat post, and that’s not so fun, so I wanted something light to go up first.

Prerna Arora Still in Jail (yay!!!)

Latest update, it’s not just Bhagnani that filed a police report, there are three separate investors who were swindled by KriArj films totaling 65 crore in losses. That’s approximately 9 million dollars. And the Economics Offenses Wing says it all went to her “lavish lifestyle”. See, this is why I kept pointing out her fancy designer clothes!!!!! If you are a struggling start up production house, where are you getting the money for that? And why was I the only one asking this question?

So, Prernaa is in jail, her business partners Arjun Kapoor (can’t find anything on him, no idea what rock he crawled out from under) and her mother Pretima have both disappeared and the police can’t find them. Her father, meanwhile, supposedly “broke down” in court at an earlier hearing. But apparently was still smart enough to make sure his hands were legally clean and everything was in the name of his daughter and wife. And I guess smart enough to send his wife out of country ASAP. I’m gonna go ahead and blame Prernaa, her father, and her business partner equally. Sounds like all three of them set up this scam (her father having the industry experience, Prernaa being the “face”, and Arjun being the shadowy figure in the background that did the dirty work), and all of them benefited, and Prernaa was the only one foolish enough to be obvious and get caught. Prernaa gave the interviews, Prernaa through the lavish parties, Prernaa stopped paying her servants.

last year she through a massive party and Aish came. this year, she is in jail

For an idea of how all this happened and the story they were selling to cover up their lack of experience or funding, check out this old interview from Film Companion, labeled “sponsored content”. What kind of a producer feels the need to advertise themselves? Not their films, but their own production house? A producer who is trying to bring in suckers to give them money, that’s who: https://www.filmcompanion.in/we-only-want-to-entertain-the-founders-of-kriarj-on-breaking-into-the-movies/

Bachchan Swag

Would you like a cell phone cover based on Big B? Or charm? Or laptop case? You can have it all! Big B just tweeted about it. More importantly, the same website has JHMS stuff and I KNOW some of you want that.

Vikrant Massey Has a Job!

In other news that some of you will care about DEEPLY and no one else will, Vikrant Massey was just confirmed as Dips’ co-star in the Meghna Gulzar movie about an acid attack victim. So this is all kinds of good, great director, great topic, and (from what I have been told by the little Vikrant Massey fan club in my comments section) also a great actor.

  1. I really Vikrant Massey in Death in the Gunj and he did stand out as much as he could in Half Girlfriend and Lipstick Under My Burkha. I’m rooting for him and think he’s the perfect one to feature opposite Deepika, especially if he’s playing the real life Laxmi’s boyfriend. He has an inherent kind of gentleness to his performance in Death in the Gunj that will work, I think. Plus, once again producers and Deepika are smart in making sure a bigger name actor doesn’t overshadow Deepika, the true star of the film.

    • I think of it as the “Sonam Strategy”. She worked with Rajkummar, Fawad, Jim Sarbh, all those nobodies in Veere Di Wedding, and Dulquer in her upcoming film. She gets to work with a great actor who can do the heavy lifting for her, plus introduce a new talent to a wider stage, and she doesn’t have to worry about being overshadowed by their star power. Anushka too, come to think of it, she brought in Diljit for Phillauri and that wonderful Bengali actor for Pari.

      • Parambrata Chatterjee is the Bengali actor, and now that Vikrant is squared away let’s all direct our mental energy to making him a bigger star!

        • So, Rajkummar becomes Ranveer, Vicky becomes Rajkummar, Vikrant becomes Vicky, and Parambata becomes Vikrant?

        • That’s why it is a great strategy! People buy tickets for the cult fave actor opposite her, but the mainstream media misses that story and gives her credit. When the DCIB Vikrant Massey club buys out opening day for Dips’ movie, the media will think it is all because of her, not him.

          • Hi!!! Sorry I’ve been away. Had a mental health issue this summer plus wedding planning!!

And I kinda don’t buy the theory about mainstream media. They’ve all been predicting how the khans’ offerings will be biiiig hits. They weren’t were they?

          • I was here when you hated on Sanju. I did get around to watching it. Like literally the last day it was in the theatres. I loved it!! Not as a Sanjay Dutt biopic but just a good, well told, well acted mainstream period film. If that makes any sense. I didn’t like Robot so liking 2.0 was out of the question. I was totally floored by Tumbbad, Stree, Andhadhun and Badhai ho, Brij Mohan Amar Rahe, Rajma Chawal and Mirzapur!! Omg I’m so excited for season 2 of Mirzapur!!! One of these days I’ll catch up with your posts on them.

          • Teefa in Trouble! That’s the other movie I loved. Check that out if you want, it felt kind of similar in tone to Stree to me. Not a horror comedy, but a romance-action comedy with the same kind of tongue-in-cheek attitude towards the tropes.

          • Raazi was so intense in theaters I had a hard time sleeping afterwards and never really want to rewatch it. Unless I watch just the Vicky-Alia scenes and pretend in my head that they get together at the end and love triumphs in some unbelievable way, happy happy.

Vikrant Massey, Meher Vij, and JHMS were the 3 revelations of 2017 BW for me. VM subsequently had a web series about him taking a motorcycle road trip with an old man, but it didn’t quite land for me. I feel that he and Vicky Kaushal were competing for NBT (next big thing) in 2018 BW, with VK pulling out ahead for now. But hoping there are enough projects, and enough variety of projects, to accommodate them both. I really enjoy seeing VM bring his characters to emotional life, which he managed to do even in a substandard film like Half GF. Imagine if VM had had Varun’s role in October! I hope he gets a chance to shine and to “graduate” to the next level after partnering with Deepika. Whatever you think of her acting skills, she is always a “team player” co-star to her leading men, even when she’s the star.

As a ’70s kid, I’m also a card carrying member of the Shaggy Haired Actors Fan Club… Aditya Roy Kapur in Fitoor, Vikrant Massey in Death-Gunj, Kunal Kapoor in everything. Bradley Cooper was working it in A Star Is Born recently. Who knows why that hairstyle ever went out of style? Maybe so that the women of the world would stop salivating? 😉

    • I was trying to think where I just saw that shaggy hair look, and then I remembered! Fawad! Yet another sign of his perfection, he went shaggy in ADHM and kept it for the time around filming. Looked sooooo good.
