Upcoming Non-Hindi Movies!!! Prime Series and Malayalam Excitement!

Well, this is a sign! I am excited about two upcoming things, and neither of them are traditional Hindi theatrical releases. Not only that, both of them were tweeted/promoted by mainstream Hindi film people, so the industry is paying more attention outside of Hindi theatrical releases too.

First, Nivin!!!!!! Nivin Nivin Nivin!!!!!!! This is the movie that was announced and the poster came out aaaaaaaaaaages ago, and then we heard nothing. Now, finally, there is a teaser trailer. Which actually gives a little less than the poster did. See, here is the poster:

And we already know it is going to be filmed partially in Bombay. So, Nivin as a tough inner city mobster in Bombay. With co-production from Bombay studios. The trailer doesn’t really enter anything else to that, there’s some talk in the background, sounds like the usual “young boy from elsewhere arrives in Bombay and rises to the top of the crime world through his smarts and toughness”. It’s risky, because there are no visuals at all until the very end of the trailer. But it’s also exciting, makes me want to know more about the film. Well, makes me want to know more since I already saw the poster. If I hadn’t seen the poster, my reaction would have been more “yeah, so?”

And then there is the other thing! Farhan and Ritiesh are producing, but Reema and Zoya are writing it (yaaay!). It’s an Amazon Prime series, supposedly about wedding planners in Bombay. Which is perfect, we were just talking about this related to Gully Boy, that Zoya is really at her best when she is dealing with the world she knows. That is, the super wealthy people of Bombay and their friends.

The wedding planner world gives her a chance to be in that world, but not quite. Presumably the main characters will be the planners, so somewhere between employees and friends of the super wealthy. Not quite the “little problems of rich people”, because they will presumably actually work for a living and need to be successful at their careers and have true worries. But still in that world that Zoya knows best.

Most importantly, KALKI!!!! And JIM SARBH!!!!!! I love both of them and I am really really excited about seeing them work together. With the two of them in the cast, I am going to assume that the other cast members that I don’t know as well (Arjun Mathur, Sobhita Dhulipala, Shashank Arora, Shivani Raghuvanshi) are also wonderful.

Oh, here’s something cool! Shashank Arora and Sobhita Dhulipala are both in this mini-series and in Moothon! So big day for them today.

  1. I watched Moothon teaser twice because I loved how different it is.
And I’m excited for Made in Heaven. Finally an indian series not about gangsters and killings. It was about time!
You should watch A death in the Gunj if you love Kalki and Jim, I’m sure you will join out little Vikrant Massey FC if you watch it.

    • Maybe I should make A Death in the Gunj a Friday classic. Seems like something a lot of people would want to watch, if I announce it in advance it might encourage more folks to check it out. Most importantly, that gives me an excuse to continue procrastinating about reviewing Kaagaz Ka Phool.
