Happy Monday! Which is also, in America, Martin Luther King day. But I still have to work. Distract me from my misery!
As always, you can ask me anything from the personal (“what movies did you watch this weekend?”) to the specific and factual (“what is Republic Day?”) to the general discussion (“Independence Day or Republic Day; which is the better movie release holiday?”).
Now, a question for you! I just finished an epic series of posts on Indian historical films thanks to Maria’s suggestion. What series of “10 Films in _______ Genre” can/should I do next?
I’ve already done 10 action films and 10 rom-coms and various others, I am out of ideas!
Do a list of thrillers

Interesting. I’ll have to think if I can come up with 10!

You could get really goofy and do lists like “Top 10 movies with awkward white women dancing in the background” or “Top 10 chase scenes that take place during a musical stage performance”

It’s my favourite kind of wedding.
Oh, there was this cute scene in Meri Nimmo when the boy who is in love with Anjali Patil hears about managalsutra, and what it symbolize and than makes one and ties it on Anjali’s neck. So sweet.

I have a soft spot for it too. Although I think I like “legal and formal but eloping” weddings just as much as “not even legal just impulsive romantic ceremonies”. Oh, Nayakan has another great one!!!

I have been given 2 fruit boxes full of Bollywood DVDs – mainly 2 in 1 dvds but also some awards nights and The Outer World of SRK. I’ve made a list of them all and they total 266 or 500+ movies! Some are doubles, some I’ve already seen, some I probably won’t watch, some have subtitles (or say they do), some do not. Not sure where I’m going to keep them! I will have to catalogue them in some way to keep track of what’s what.
Anyway question – is there a Republic Day movie release? I imagined Uri would have been.

That is so exciting! I am jealous of you, with all those new movies.
I had the same question about Republic Day. Or really, I had the question about “what are my plans for Friday night?” which is kind of the same thing. There are two Republic Day releases, Thackeray and Manikarnika. Obviously, I am not watching Thackeray, I would be more like to picket in front of the theater than actually see it. Manikarnika, I am divided. Do I avoid it because it will be a disaster, or do I see it so I know just how much of a train wreck it is?

Second question, which of my friends can I trick into seeing it with me? Or, to put it another way, what friendship am I willing to risk ending in order to not have to suffer alone? It is a challenge!

I don’t know, I think we may be even again because she had a streak of hating every movie this fall. But I think at least she has known me long enough that she would forgive me if it ended up being bad. Yeah, I’ll start with her.

I love all these top 10 ideas! How about Top 10 movies where strict parents/in-laws inexplicably come around after being horrible for the entire movie? My latest entry for this category is Bucket List, where Madhuri’s in-laws are unabashedly terrible people, but for some unknown reason are all happy to come dance with her in public during the climax. Hmmmph.

I just assume there is a deleted scene where Madhuri’s husband/their son, gives them a big talking to and forces them to be less terrible.
