Monday Morning Questions: Happy Week of Ek Ladki Ko Dekho and Sarvam Thaala Mayam!!!!

Happy Monday!!! I had one of those weekends that was more exhausting than a work week, so I am happy to be back at work. Well, not super super happy. I still wouldn’t mind getting to sleep in a bit and avoiding the cold commute and all that. But not super sad either!

As always, this is where you can ask me anything you want from the personal (“what movies did you watch this weekend?”) to the specific and factual (“what movies released this weekend?”) to the general and discussion (“weekends or workdays, which is better?”)

And, I have a question for you! Shahrukh is still considering possible next films. Of the ones rumored, would you rather the Aanand L Rai film, the Sanjay Leela Bhansali film, Don 3, or co-starring with the beauty queen in the Farah film? Or something else?

Obviously, I will answer Don 3. I still want it! I still think they can crack it and come up with a plot without PC!

    • Oh, it is sad! But at least it ends with “a story of acceptance”. Also, possible explanation for the theater scenes! If this is Sonam’s way of coming out, of letting Rajkumar tell her story with her playing the lead, in the hopes of getting her family to listen and understand.

  1. Are you planning to do DCIB awards for the best TGIF, best review, buest Hindi 101 etc? It was fun last year.

And the other question: apart Manikarnika, what other movies have you seen? Please tell me it’s 96 πŸ˜€

    • I wasn’t going to, because the DCIB awards didn’t get as much traffic. But sure! If I have at least one person interested, it’s an easy way to fill up blog space.

No, non-Manikarnika movies were boring this weekend. Skipped through A Summer Place (as research! And it was so much creepier than I remembered), also caught up on a couple Netflix shows, and watched two Koffee’s so I am only behind by one. This weeks Tamil is going to be a rerun, and next week is going to be the Rajiv Menon movie if it kills me, so 96 won’t be happening until week after next at the very earliest.

  2. Even if you don’t do a full review, I would love your thoughts on the Abhishek-Shweta KWK episode.

I think unfortunately, Shah Rukh needs to do a purely commercial, some what safe film. I think Don 3 would be his best bet but I don’t think that’ll happen this year since Farhan is gearing up for Toofan (the boxing film). I think my second choice would be the Rakesh Sharma biopic. It will likely be safe and patriotic.

    • I think Don 3 would be his best bet too. But only if it is really good, if he and Farhan throw something together just to try to pick up on the fandom, it could end up like Race 3, just embarrassing and sad.

Maybe it is time for him to return to YRF? Let Adi come up with something big and popular for him, and save the YRF fortunes at the same time by giving them a return to the love stories that made their name.

      • Oh yes! Sharukh should do a movie with Aditya Chopra!
Zero (as far as I know) wasn’t good, so no Aanand L. Rai please.
Bhansali – it depends on the role.
Don 3, I agree, I want him to do this but it must be good good, otherwise no.
I would love to see him in Dear zindagi /JHMS role, but he won’t do this unfortunately.

        • The last two times YRF was in serious trouble, Aditya gave the greenlight to Chak De India, and directed Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi. So there is a good history of Shahrukh coming in to save YRF when it is time for a change of direction.

          • Yes!! Sharukh should return to YRFand Aditya should direct him. They both need this! Also, some of my favorite recent-ish Sharukh movies have been when he plays his age. So I love the idea of Sharukh playing Chak De/Dear Zindagi type roles.

          • Yes! Now is the time to think outside of the box and do something really radical, neither of them have anything to lose.

    • I saw BH just posted the text of an interview, I hope it is the same one, I am planning a post to discuss it. I always prefer the text version, so I can really dig into the words, you know?

  3. Yesterday I knew nothing about Sarvam Thaala Mayam, and now I read that Vineeth is in this movie and I’m excited. I like him but he always do those strange, bad movies, and this one looks like good one so I’m happy.

    • I am very curious about this film, because it is mostly newcomers. But the music and director are so good, I have faith the newcomers won’t matter so much.

  5. First a very general question – have there been any Hindi/Indian movies that incorporate American/Indians?
Question directed to you – have you reviewed the old movie Deewana, starring Rishi Kapoor, Divya Bharti and some young whippersnapper named….I forget?
Oh, another really general question – whenever the actors are shown driving, they are shown driving right down the middle of the street. right over the center of the lanemarkers! Is this just a movie thing or is it the norm for drivers in India?

    • American Indian characters or actors? For actors, there is a surprisingly high number of Indian Americans that work in Indian film. Have you seen Mirchi? With Prabhas and Anushka? The other heroine is a former Miss India Michigan from America who came to India to work in movies. There is a great documentary called “Big in Bollywood” about the comic character in 3 Idiots who is an American Indian actor that did the film as a lark and now has a semi-regular career in Indian movies. I suspect his life is pretty much what it is like for the other cross-country actors. Normal small life in America, and then he regularly goes to India for a few weeks or months, does a film, and comes back home.

And it looks like I haven’t reviewed Deewana yet! Maybe I will if Rishi or Shahrukh every has another movie coming out to make it relevant, or something else happens.

For your final question, in my (minimal) experience of driving in India, either you are on a backlane road where everyone goes down the center unless another car is coming towards them and then they terrifyingly have to pass each other, or you are on a city road that is so crowded that lanes are just vague concept. I think in movies, they clear the roads off and with no other traffic, why not drive down the middle?

  6. Will you be watching Four More Shots on Amazon? I was debating watching it. I am not sure if I will love it or hate it but feel like I will likely have a strong reaction to it.

    • I hadn’t even heard of it until just now! There are so many serieses. But oh my gosh, I love this cast. All my favorite scene stealers, Prateik to Sayani Gupta to Kirti Kulhari.

Probably still won’t watch it though. Too many hours when I would need to focus and not blog. I don’t know if there is another series coming up from India that I’m planning to watch. Maybe Bard of Blood whenever that comes out for Emraan and SRK.
