This is such a good movie, SUCH a good movie! So good that I blocked it out of my head because it was also disturbing. But beautiful. And somehow the audience didn’t embrace it and not as many people saw it as it deserved. So I am going to try remedy that. Oh, and hey! Mother’s Day! It’s actually a perfect Mother’s Day movie.
A lot of horror movies have the message of “twist! The humans are the real horror!” But this film really digs into that, especially as it relates to women’s bodies, pregnancy, birth, and motherhood. Plus it has hauntingly beautiful images, and Parambrata Chatterjee (for those of you who are fans of sensitive Bengali men).
Now, here’s the trick, DO NOT watch the Pari that is on Netflix. It’s the wrong one. Watch the one that is on Amazon Prime, that has Anushka in it.

Really a beautiful movie, and perfect for Mother’s day.
Too scary for me….

It really is a scary one. Not so much “ghosts and demons, boooo!” but more “the terrible things men do to women in order to ‘control’ them, booo”,

Great call! It IS perfect for Mother’s Day! I’ll enjoy watching it for a second time.

Isn’t it? Not the sappy pretty version of motherhood, but the messy painful no-good-choices version.
