Happy Monday! I am back at work, the dog is worn out, and all my laundry is done. A successful weekend!
This is the place where you can ask me anything at any time, just keep coming back to this post all week as you think of things you want to know!
Now, question for you! An important one. Commentator DocAnitaGeorge just rescued two orphan kittens, a brother and sister. What filmi name can she give a boy and girl kitten? Current thoughts are Baazigar and Mohini, my suggestion was Seeta Aur Geeta or Ram or Shyam. And for inspiration, here are photos:

Girl kitten: Alia
Boy kitten: Bahubali
And also check out this awesome crime Thriller :

I had been thinking of “Bahubilli” (punning on Hindi billi for cat) but it’s a bit too long. Two or three syllables is preferable.

Are you aware of the Shahrukh Khan Scholarship recently announced by La Trobe University in Australia. According to the press release, “Aligned to Shah Rukh Khan’s leadership on humanitarian and social justice causes, this prestigious four-year PhD scholarship aims to inspire a female researcher from India to undertake research to help find solutions to the growing challenges of our time. The scholarship is being introduced in recognition of Mr Khan’s dedication to women’s empowerment, through his Meer Foundation.”

Yes, I think I saw the coverage of that. It’s interesting, I hope it starts a trend of people realizing that they need to “pay” Shahrukh for his public appearances by doing something related to his charities. It’s a nice public relations movie for him, and also just a good thing to be happening in the world.

Mohini is fine…what about Asoka (3 syllables) or Samar or Baadshah instead of Baazigar?
I would be interested in what you think about the teasers and the trailer of Bard of Blood.
Does it really make sense if I comment on articles you posted more than a week ago? You are so busy writing…I feel they’ll get lost.
It’s a pity that I can’t comment on the movies you reviewed for the Female Film Week…I still have to watch them and absolutely no time for that…
Btw, some thank you on the way to you 🙂

Absolutely comment on old articles! I get an alert for every comment, and it shows up in the side panel of the site as well so other people will see it.
I want comments on the related article because that way in future if someone is going through the archives the conversation is in the right place for them to find it.
I probably won’t be writing about the Bard of Blood stuff, just too much going on.
Oh, and for Female Films week, I reposted my Anjaam review yesterday and I am sure you have seen that one!

I’ve been thinking about Baadshah as well. My next step will be to try the names out and see what sticks!

You could do Baadshah and Twinkle! I can’t remember Twinkle’s character’s name in that movie, and Twinkle is a great kitten name anyway.

The Bhansali movie with Salman and Alia has been shelved. I couldn’t be happier.
Seems there is some juicy gossip that will come out soon. Alia as of last week was saying she will start shooting this week. Apparently a set was already built. Salman first posted that the movie has been “pushed” and then Bhansali Productions posted many hours later that it’s not happening for now.
Salman is also putting up posts that he will still arrive on Eid. Meanwhile, Akshay’s movie Laxmi Bomb has now been moved to Eid. Mess!

She’s totally pregnant!!!!! I’m just gonna stick with that rumor.
Maybe Salman will be pushing Dabangg 2 to Eid?
LikeLike
Hah, she won’t get pregnant at this age.
Seems like some sort of fallout has happened between Salman and Bhansali according to all the rumors coming out. Whatever it is, I couldn’t be happier. Salman can’t act and it would be really gross seeing him do love scenes with Alia while looking like her grandpa.
I think he’s coming out with Kick 2 or Wanted 3 or Dabang 3 or something like that – one of his endless parade of remakes and sequels. I think he’s spooked after 3 back to back lackluster movies on Eid so he will stick to safety.

I don’t think I super like any of them so far. I’ll have to see how they play out within the film.

I was really surprised hearing this Alia-Salman movie has been shelved. Is it very uncommon to shelve a movie with such big names and almost everything ready to start shooting?
Btw I also think she’s pregnant.

Oh good, I have support!
I don’t think it is that unusual for a film to be shelved at this point. What is unusual is for films to be announced/rumored so far in advance that this becomes news. Just to pick a random example, I think Aamir dropped out of Darr at a similar point and then was replaced by Shahrukh. No firm dates set, no promotions planned, filming hasn’t started, it’s understandable if things come up at this point and plans change. The producer/director and other actors can adjust. Abhishek and Paltan and Priyanka and Bharat were different because filming had actually started on those movies,

Yes, but when Abhishek left Paltan or Priyanka Bharat they were only actors who have change their minds. The movies were done with or without them. Here we have a movie with enormous budget, stars and stuff ready and suddenly they are like: no, we are no doing this anymore.

I haven’t been following the story that closely, but I didn’t think it was ready-ready. Like, they had a cast and a filming location and tentative dates, but I didn’t have a feeling that money had been spent on costumes and songs were written and things just yet. I could be wrong though.

Not only that but the rift is obvious too since they didn’t put out one press release for them all. First Salman came out saying it’s postponed and many hours later, Bhansali Productions gave a different spin on it basically saying it was shelved. So both sides are not even sticking to the same story.

Maybe this is symptomatic of the reasons the film didn’t work out? Salman does not have a history of doing well with auteur directors, and Bhansali is very auteur. Is he going to put up with Salman’s notes about what his fans will need from his character, Salman showing up late on set, and all the rest of it? And is Salman going to put up with Bhansali micro-managing his performance?
LikeLike
Yes, you’re right about that. Salman and Bhansali are both stubborn and them working together at this stage never made any sense.
There were also stories that a mock shoot took place last week – SLB does tend to do them so it’s believable. I tend to think either one or both realized the Salman/Alia pair just wasn’t looking appropriate even if it’s a story with a built-in age difference. They really do look creepy together – he is so big and old and lumbering and she is so tiny and childlike.
LikeLike
Or the mock shoot made them realize that the whole chemistry of the three of them was off. Not just that Salman is bigger than Alia, but Alia memorizes her script in advance, works on method reactions, digs into her character, and Salman just shows up and acts the way he feels in the moment. And Bhansali wants actors who follow his vision unquestioningly. None of these people should be working together!!!!

Filming was supposed to start this week so it is very very late for something like this to happen. In fact the rumor is that Alia had already started shooting for a song and the sets were already up. Up until Friday, she was spotted going to Bhansali’s office too.

Can I entice you to join us on the pregnancy train? She shut down filming of Brama-whatsit too because of “stomach problems” and then zipped off to New York with Ranbir to talk to his parents.

Hah, the conspiracy theory is fun but Aloo is Indian at the end of the day and not a Nina Gupta type of strong woman either. She is not going to get pregnant or have a child outside of wedlock especially not at this young age. I see 0% chance of this.
LikeLike
Yeah, but she’s a Bhatt! I think her sister came close to being born out of wedlock with the mess that was Mahesh’s divorce from his first wife. Certainly they aren’t a family that cares much about what people think. If any young actress is going to take the leap into unmarried pregnancy, and working afterwards, it could be Alia.
On the other hand, Ranbir’s parents putting up with it? That seems far more doubtful.

I just saw that Fauji the series is available on Prime. Is it worth watching? Especially for someone that likes ShahRukh but am not a die-hard fan. I am looking for something light and not very heavy.

I’m a die hard fan and I haven’t been able to do Fauji. It’s a really good series, was popular and critically acclaimed and blah-blah. But it’s Doordarshan 90s filming quality. If you know what that’s like, and you can put up with the funky camera work and tiny sets and all the other low budget things, it’s probably worth watching.

Oof! Okay I will skip it then. I also realized that all 42 episodes of Siyaasat are on Prime so I will stick to watching that. Have you seen that series? It is definitiely a bit slow but soo entertaining. Plus the just about all female characters in it are AMAZING.

Siyaasat looks wonderful! And actually has a budget to play with, unlike poor Fauji.

Pretty much decided on Baaz for the boy. In Baazigar it means “game” or “trick” but on it’s own means “falcon.” He’s aways airborne, pouncing on someone! So Baaz or Baazi. Trying out names for the girl but none have clicked yet. I like Shanti but she’s not very peaceful by nature. Always playing, animated and loud (I’ve tried Kajol but diesn’t feel right)

If you missed something, I did too! S-E-L walked out, and rumor was it was because they didn’t like it that the soundtrack used songs from multiple composers instead of being all theirs. Maybe they had already written and sold Baby but refused to write anything more?
