You should all be very proud of me, I managed to finish my library book on kindle before midnight tonight when the library will magically take it away. And now it is too late for me to think through a serious “real’ blog post, so you will have to be happy with a non-real one.
As I see it, there are three categories of celebrities: Those who are more attractive young, those who maintain a steady level of attraction, and those who suddenly level up in attraction as they age. What I am looking for here are examples of the third category.
I’ll start!
Dimple Kapadia, she was cute and likable and pleasant when she was young, and yet with every year of age she somehow becomes more and more fascinating to look at. See?

And the person that made me start thinking about this, Ajay Devgan who Filmikudhi pointed at as sooooo much hotter lately than he was younger.

Are those the only two actors in the world who got hotter with age? Or am I forgetting someone? And feel free to also point out representatives of the other two categories, less hot with age (Aishwarya) and a steady level of attractiveness through all ages (Madhavan)?
UPDATE: Someone on The Internet reminded me of a very important addition to this list, Suniel Shetty!!!!! That Sex God (as of like 4 years ago).

SRK, Kajol, Juhi are three artists I find a lot more attractive now, especially Kajol.

Yes! Kajol really aged wonderfully. Partly because she has better make-up and hair artists now, but mostly I think her face and body are the kind that just get better with age.

Shahrukh obvi, Kajol looks way better to me now in her 40s – like beyond gorgeous. And here’s a vote for Tabu. The photos of her in Melbourne were amazing.

Yes Tabu! Always interesting looking, pretty. But as she ages, and has confidence in her age, just stunning.

Another vote for SRK. And I also think Emraan Hashmi looks much better now, but I’m not sure it’s him or he just has a better stylist, or it’s me because I like older men.
People who look worse with age:
Salman, but he has a lot of health problems.
Sanjay Dutt, never was handsone, but now he looks terrible.
Tovino Thomas – don’t get me wrong, he still is one of the most handsome actors, and I love him, but in my opinion he looked better few years ago. It can be the styling, but I think he lost a little of his charm.

Tovino had a sweet spot. I saw him in ABCD and maybe one other early movie and I honestly could not tell him apart from the other actors, he was just miscellaneous young man to me. And then a few years back, Guppy and Mayanadhi, amazing! And now in Uyire, back to miscellaneous a little bit.

Yes. 2016- 2017 was his hottest period. For me it was exactly from 2 Penkuttikal, Style, Godha (I started watching them only to stare at him and then discovered the movies have a lot more to offer) to Abhiyum Anuvum.

Oh man this is so much fun! Thanks for shoutout. I really did not find Ajay attractive AT ALL when he was young. Weird teeth, weird hair, and then I watched De De and oof, I was smitten. I completely agree with Kajol and Tabu getting better with age. In De De just as I could see how multiple women would fall for Ajay, I could see how multiple men would fall for Tabu.
Here are some more:
Rekha: cherubic and coy to classy and regal, and maybe even ageless
Sushmita Sen: she just got sexier and classier with age
Karishma Kapoor: frizzy hair, innocent, wide-eyed to sleek and confident
Anil Kapoor: he was always charismatic but the charisma just got better with age and so did his face and demeanor. Plus, like Rekha he does not look like he is in his 60s.
Amitabh Bachchan: unusual angular features, tall, lanky, clean shaven to regal, sage, glasses and beard. He looks like a grandpa that is a bit scary but also fun
Farhan Aktar: he is another one like Ajay to me. I did not find him attractive until sometime between 2013-and 2015.
And maybe Kareena. I am very curious to see how Kareena looks in 10-15 years.

Yes! I loved that in De De Pyaar De, it was Tabu who was the sexual threat and Rakul who was sweet and insecure. And that we could completely believe it thanks to the way Tabu held herself and the way she was styled and everything. Heck, even Tabu’s daughter came off as young and not that sexual compared to her Mom.
Yes Sushmita! I was watching a bit of some runway show a few years back and all these pretty young actress models came out, and then Sush came out and just sold it like crazy. It’s fascinating with her because when they were young, she and Aish looked so similar, and yet as they age they look increasingly different and I think Sush looks much better.
Anil Kapoor with grey hair is a whole different person than Anil Kapoor with black hair. DDD Anil? SMOKING! Taal Anil? Eh.
I think Farhan just had terrible hair. Maybe a sign that his marriage was in trouble? His hairdresser wife let him go out like that?

How we could forget about Sunil? He came from “what a strange face, but at least he has good muscles” to “WOW, just wow”. Why there ain’t romantic movies with him being sexy?
Oh, I know, we need Dhadkan sequel. Poor Shilpa is unhappy with Akshay who not only became old and less attractive, but also double faced and has bad politicians as friends. She is still beautiful (btw she is another star who looks better now) and young. One day she sees an article about Sunil and is shocked how sexy he is and how beautiful his house is. She leaves Akshay, and starts a plan to seduce Sunil. How she wins his heart and convinces him to kill Akshay is the rest of the story.

Heck, if Suniel gets his real life beautiful house, Shilpa can get her real life scuzzy husband. He’s involved in gambling scandals and game fixing, at which point she reads a magazine article about Suniel and his house, starts to think about what could have been, reaches out to him, they have elegant dinners and drinks (Suniel wears a lot of cool casual suits), and eventually she falls in love with him. But of course, having been betrayed once, he doesn’t believe her. And then it all spins out into crazy drama again, but in nicer clothes and houses and with grey hair.

This is from years back, but there was a match fixing scandal with IPL and he was implicated.

Juhi, for sure! She’s always looked great, but I just saw her “Dance Deewane” performance with Madhuri–also gorgeous–and she’s aged into such a classy, elegant look. Still a wonderful dancer and actress, too ( :

Yes! I would include Madhuri too, except I think Madhuri is more one of the “maintained a study level of attractiveness over time” person.

I had no idea until very recently how much plastic surgery Sridevi had. It was all extremely well done but holy cow, completely different face.

Yeah, really shows the difference between expensive high quality surgery and hack work. I’ve heard she raised her daughters in Dallas, I imagine that is a good place to find a very good plastic surgeon who can make you look like a beautiful woman who has never been touched.
I am assuming everyone we have discussed has had some kind of minor work down (botox if nothing else), but there is a way to do it where you still look your age and like yourself, just the best possible version of yourself, versus as though you have had work done.

She had a nose surgery just after her first movie as heroine – and back in 80s itself when there was no visual media (TV) in South India, it was a big news all over newspapers.
She was always obsessive about the surgeries.

Agree on Dimple. I feel like she grew into her face. It was always interesting and then she acquired the life experience and gravitas to match.
Waheeda has aged beautifully. Not sure she’s more beautiful but her face is lovely and has so much character.
Shahrukh hit his sweet spot in the early 2000s, No longer puppyish but I think in recent years his weight is just a bit too low,

Agree about Shahrukh’s weight. Although his face continues to improve with age, he has one of those faces where the essential bone structure is the best part, and the more baby fat and elasticity goes away, the better it looks.
I like your take on Dimple. And Waheeda is a good add, she always had an arresting face, but it got carved into greater and greater depth as time went on.

IMO Ajay’s attractiveness changes from movie to movie, and is largely dependent on the personality of the character he’s playing, and the way he’s dressed and styled. He does a good job of radiating “charisma from within” in accordance with the role. Examples might include raincoat, Hddcs, Yuva, and U Me aur Hum (which btw is the first movie where Kajol is straight up smoking hot). And Luv Ranjan did a masterful job of styling him in DDPD, even the 5 o’clock shadow expertly narrows his otherwise chubby jawline. So I don’t think it’s just about “ageing in” with him.
Let me throw in a good word for someone who has aged in, another man in DDPD, Ajay’s bff and therapist, Javed Jaffrey. He looked kind of odd-cool hipster in his young days as an MTV VJ and a bollywood also-ran. But almost year by year he has gotten more attractive. The salt and pepper really works for him. He is at peak attractiveness right now. A couple years ago, I saw him perform live as the lead in the staged version of Monsoon Wedding, and holy smokes, I could not take my eyes off of him, he was so hot and charismatic. I found myself so attracted to him for the next 3 hours.
Among women, the most obvious example of getting hotter with age is Neetu Singh. I can’t even imagine how she was a movie star in her teens because she was cute in a little sister kind of way but not particularly attractive, not someone I would notice if I ran across her. But she looks so darn good now.

The way you feel about Ajay is how I feel about Akshay. In the right role, with the right haircut, he is super hot. But then, just months later in a different role, nothing. The thing with Ajay is, as he gets older, he does more of the mature older type roles, and looking at your list of “hot” roles, I think that’s the sweet spot. Right? I don’t need a Shivaay where he is smoking pot and leaping down mountains, I want a Raid where he wears glasses and does paperwork. But when young Ajay did HDDCS, that already felt old and mature, even though he was young.
I think I might be too young for Javed Jaffrey? Although I agree at the charisma jump, I look at him and see “uncle”. He’s also had a big jump in the pure entertainment factor. I love watching him chewing up the scenery in Bang Bang, he gives Danny Denzongpa a run for his money in the “evil villain” stakes.
We’ve been talking about plastic surgery, Neetu is one that I kind of suspect a medical plastic surgery. I could believe she had a breast reduction surgery for the usual back/cancer risk kind of reasons. And it made her look completely different, even the way she moves is easier and more graceful, she stands straighter, her head is up higher on her neck, all those things. Of course that is on top of better hair and make-up, and just generally growing up. I love young Neetu, but yeah, she’s “pretty” far more than beautiful, and now she is legitimately beautiful.
