Discussion Post: Who Here Grew Up With Honorary Aunties in Your Life? And Their Children, Your Honorary Cousins?

I so enjoyed (and continue to enjoy as more comments come in) our post about friendships and what lasted and what didn’t. I want to do kind of a partner post about another sort of childhood relationship that I have found has lasted into adulthood much more strongly, that “my Mom’s best friend” relationship. Or, in Indian English, your Aunties.

Discussion Post: Who Here is Still Friends With People From Elementary School? High School? College?

Honestly, I’m curious! Angie and I were just talking about the film “June” where our heroine stays close to her group of school friends into adulthood, which was not our experience. I’m interested in learning about other people, are you like me and Angie, or are you like a movie?

Another Internet Thinky Post! When the People Speaking for a Community, Drown Out the Voices of the Actual Community

I just have so much to say about internet dialogue! And the Gunjan Saxena debate that I am listening to second hand thanks to y’all has given me a new thing to think about. Also, once again, NO POLITICS. We have been doing fabulously with productive conversations about communication and internet culture without political specifics, let’s keep that up!

Discussion Post: Mental Health Homework, List 3 Things That Make You Happy Today

UPDATE: This post has been up for 3 hours, and no one has commented. I feel this is a bad sign for our collective ability to be happy. I’m having a moderately hard day today. Plus there’s thunderstorms, so the dog is unhappy. I’d go for a walk to get out of the stressful atmosphere, but of course I CAN’T GET OUT OF BED. Anyway, time to count our blessings in a simple effective technique for happiness!

Hindi Film 101: Social Media Stories and Truth

This is going to be a tricky discussion to start. My Dad just sent me a link to a fascinating story in the New York Times about a twitter hoaxster, and it played into a concern I have had for a while about how anonymous social media internet sources are used again and again as though they are unquestionable truth told to you by a friend. Oh, and remember, NO POLITICS. But I am very interested in social politics, if that makes sense? If you want to talk about gender issues or race issues, totally here for you. Just nothing related to specific political parties and how they use the internet.

Discussion Post: What Are Your Favorite Comfort Food Sitcoms?

I loooooooove sitcoms. Not to make me think and understand the world and blah blah blah, but to make me laugh while I am eating soup on the couch in front of the TV after a long day at work. You know, the ones you watch over and over again and get excited when you turn on the TV at the hotel and catch a rerun you haven’t seen in a while.

Discussion Post: What Movie/Book/TV Show Have You Gotten Absolutely Obsessed About? (yes, you can say JHMS)

I guess also music album/stage show. Anything you think about obsessively, talk about excessively, and so on and so forth, until you are over it all of a sudden and it becomes this nice nostalgic piece of your past.
