Upcoming Movie Reviews: Peranbu, Dear Comrade, TaRaRumPumPum, Bharat (all on Prime)

A mixed bag of movies for next week! A Malayalam film I haven’t seen and will probably admire, a Telugu film I have seen and greatly enjoyed which is now on Prime and you should check it out, my least favorite film of all time, and a movie I enjoyed more than expected which also just hit streaming.

Wednesday 9/25: Peranbu (Prime). A sensitive Malayalam drama about the single father of a handicapped daughter. Mammootty drops the style and coolness for something sensitive and vulnerable.

Thursday 9/26: Dear Comrade (Prime) A completely fun and ridiculous over the top romance from the Telugu industry. If you like longing gazes, big romantic gestures, and spunky unconventional heroines, this is for you. Also, there is a wedding song.

Friday 9/27: TaRaRumPumPum (Prime) There was a request for an “angry Margaret” review, and I have called this film out as my least favorite ever without really explaining which isn’t fair. So here you go, the movie I hate more than anything else in the world. Should be a fun review for you to read, perhaps less so for me to write. Don’t watch the movie, it is an amoral garbage fire which should be avoided like the toxic waste it is. But the songs are good.

Sunday 9/29: Bharat (Prime) Wow, an all-Prime week! Anyway, I saw Bharat in theaters and liked it more than I was expecting. It’s on Prime now, you should check it out and see if you agree with me.

    • I’m not sure, I started whatever is on Prime but I haven’t finished it. I’ll probably keep it “Malayalam” just because of Mammootty being the lead.

    • Hey, I can watch sad movies! Not often, but I will force myself.

You can try watching the vomit stain that is TaRaRumPumPum if you want, and then we will both be stretching our tastes.

  1. Peranbu is one of those movies that I’m glad I watched but I’ll probably never want see it again movies. Its not super sad exactly, just difficult.

  2. I hate Ta Ra Rum Pum too! I am so glad you hate it and are reviewing it. I am looking forward to reading an “angry Margaret” review. Also, I will comment more on the real reasons why I hate the movie so much on your review, but for now, one of the more frivolous reasons that made me so angry was that it’s trailer was the biggest bait-and-switch I have ever seen! Trailer: I am Princess; meet my family; I have the best mom, best dad . . . happy happy happy. Movie: horrible, selfish parents (especially Saif) who continue to make terrible, annoying decisions!!! UGH! I hate this movie so much!

    • I think that’s why TaRaRumPumPum and Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic have both dropped off the YRF radar. They are just too weird to promote! Happy cute kids, tragic weird plot.

      • I know am in the minority, but I like Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic. Yes, I get that a court mandating the person who killed your parents to be your guardian is super messed up and in real life would lead to everyone needed therapy for life. But some how I still find the overall movie charming. Maybe because Rani is just so cute in it. And I don’t hate any of the characters in it – even Saif.

  3. I’m trying to get through Bharat but it’s a very weird little movie! I don’t hate it but there are so many parts where it hits a clanging note like a hammer on sheet metal or something. But there are good bits too. It doesn’t really hang together for me but I’m going to see if I can get through it so I can participate when your review is posted.

    • Such a weird movie! Supposedly they cut about 20 minutes last minute, and there were sections where I really feel it (especially the circus section).
