Rani Week: Sexiest Rani-SRK Songs, Ranked!

Okay, after the two warm up posts yesterday, now we have the one people will really really care about: can you rank Rani-SRK songs for sexiness?

They haven’t done that many songs, so I am going to rank ALL of them!!!!

First one, sexiest one. They don’t actually have sex, but they are so young and in love and into each other! “Kuch Kuch Hota Hai”

And now the one where they are having sex, but instead of seeing it we are watching this song, “Tauba Tumhare”

Okay okay, finally one where they have sex, “Dheere Jalna”

This song is so good! On so many levels, it feels like coming alive, and finding happiness, and all of the parts of love. But also, sexy! “Mitwa”

This is a lovely post-marriage song, it’s sexy in that they keep exchanging glances and having their little secret together, “Kangna Re”

It’s all about Shahrukh’s big sappy eyes! That, combined with Rani’s smiles, is beautiful sexy “Suno Na Suno Na”

This is nice, a lovely love song, but Rani’s weird leather corset kind of ruins it for me, “Tumhi Dekho Na”

A fun silly mostly not sexy song, but man that moment when Rani walks on and Shahrukh is looking at her!!!! “Koi Mil Gaya”

Primarily a sad Kajol song, but that little bit of SRK and Rani together? Super cute! “Tujhe Yaad Na Meri”

Again, mostly a Kajol song. But Rani looks great and Shahrukh looks great dancing with her, “Say Shava Shava”

Everything else in this movie works, but somehow this one song just feels bland and I lose the chemistry, “Laage Re” from Paheli

The married bits are so cute and so sexy here, but the sad bits are so sad, it drops to the bottom of the list, “Chalte Chalte”

I don’t know why, but somehow this song just doesn’t work for me. Maybe it’s trying too hard? Maybe they feel too young? “Dagaria Chalo”

Puppets are not sexy, “Phir Raat Kati”

Not sexy, being depressed and regretful, “Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna”

Crying? Not sexy “Where’s the Party Tonight?”

Being a passive aggressive party pooper? Really REALLY not sexy!!!! “Rock ‘n Roll Soniye”

Okay, what are your ranks???? Or at least, top and bottom three?

And just to make this easy, here is my list of rankings all written out so you don’t have to scroll:

    • I think that is “Jaadu Hai” here. But originally it’s from Bobby, not a song but a scene towards the end of the film.

  1. Mpollak711 : I can’t rank, but I disagree about “Where’s the party tonight?”. Interspersing them finally making love in the hotel room while their spouses party elsewhere underscores their tragedy. That moment when he takes off his shirt… too sexy for words. They know it’s goodbye.. that’s why the French use the term “petite mort”. Little death for lovemaking.

    • I agree. Very sexy – not the jumping around party scene but the counter point it makes to their love-making. I don’t read the tears and sadness as goodbye. I read it as a sorrow and regret that they are acknowledging the end of their marriages. They are not leaping into this with joy and excitement. Rather they realise their affair is inevitable and they know there is difficulty and hurt ahead. The build up has been slow, dhire jalna, making it stronger but not light-hearted as in the usual romantic/sexy number.

Btw: Dhire Jalna to the top of the list for me.

      • So for you, Dheere Jalna, then Where’s the Party Tonight? What about poor Tauba Tumhare?

        • Not poor at all. It should be happy with number 3 spot . Maybe next week they can swap around.

Back to Where’s the Party – I love how it’s filmed, the angles, the stillness in their body language. It feels very intimate.

          • If Where’s the Party had been just the love section, with a soft love song in the back, it would work for me. It’s not so much the shock of moving between the two songs, it’s the way the transition is handled almost as a horror film, like the audience should be aghast at what is happening.

  2. After watching so many sexy Rani songs in your last few posts, I have to say she does sexy moves better than any of my favorite actresses in Hindi films. Usually I see the love songs with women waving their arms about on a mountain and I think the women look silly. But Rani looks sexy. She is what all those directors want, but (in my mind) so rarely achieve in those mountain love songs.

I would put Tauba Tumhare first and Dheere Jalna second for her sexiest SRK songs. Though the clip you shared of Dheere Jalna cut off before it got to the sexy part. I don’t find her Kuch Kuch Hota Hai songs sexy, as I am always ignoring her and waiting for the Kajol bits of the songs to come back.

    • Yaaaay! Someone with me on the “Where’s the Party Tonight isn’t actually sexy” bandwagon!

And I love your description of the way Rani makes things seem sexy. It’s really remarkable, how many love songs she does that just “work” somehow, while the same song with a different actress would look funny or trying too hard.

  3. Reply to Margaret above – fair point. I would be just as happy with it to be a straight out love scene. The juxtaposition adds an extra dimension but it means ‘less ShahRukh!’

  4. Are you going to do a sexy Rani-Abhishek songs post? They have amazing chemistry! For a while there in between Karishma and Aishwarya, we all thought that we were going to get a Amitabh-Jaya version 2.
