Friday WatchAlong: Dil Maange More, Jaane Tu…Ya Jaane Na, Love Breakups Zindagi, Or Aaina?

Okay, this week I started with Convenience! These are all movies available on Netflix or Prime, or both! Oh, and some of them are also kind of silly and lightweight.

Dil Maange More

So sue me, I like it! It’s a movie based on a Pepsi ad campaign slogan, as all great art is. Our confused hero Shahid Kapoor can’t decide which girl he likes between Tulip Joshi, Soha Ali Khan, and Ayesha Takia. He’s a small town boy struggling in the big city of Bombay, the colors are bright, the songs are good, and he works at a cd store! How old-fashioned is that????

Jaane Tu…Ya Jaane Na

This is an actual good movie (unlike the other movies). Group of college friends graduate, and the male and female best friends at the center of their group have to figure out if they are just friends or something more? They date other people, they figure out their futures, they grow up, and maybe love happens? You have to watch to find out!

Love Breakups Zindagi

Brace yourself, this is a charming movie made with NO MONEY. Like, they couldn’t even afford extras for the wedding scene in the middle so it feels like a big wedding with no guests. But it’s charming! Two nice people are the respective best friends of a bride and groom at a wedding. They are nice together, they both get involved in wedding stuff and are thrown together a lot, and then they return to their “real” lives but somehow can’t let go of this new friendship. Oh, and there is a cameo from a Very Very Famous Person.

It’s weird, it’s old, Jackie Shroff goes around in nothing but a dish towel, there are many reasons not to watch this film. But Juhi is so great! And Amrita Singh is so soap opera evil-y! And it would be just soooooooooooooooo much fun to watch in a group and rag on the clothes and the EVIL and cheer in Juhi.

Okay, vote! Or suggest stuff, but only stuff on Netflix/Prime!

    • YAAAAY! So glad my “let’s look at what’s easy” theory worked and you were able to find things that you can watch.

  1. So I bought Aaina from YouTube maybe six months ago, probably based on something you wrote about it. I’ve seen it once, I liked it, and I would love to see it again full of everyone elses comments. So even though I’ve seen it, Aaina is my first choice. My second choice is Love Breakups Zindagi because I liked their video, and I’m curious about it’s low budgetness.

    • Yaaaay! I also like Aaina! And glad to hear someone has already seen and liked it (it’s so old-fashioned I am a bit nervous recommending it).

    • Blech, naked Jackie! Even in this film, when he was more or less my age, I still look at him and go “ew, old man body”
